KidsCraft Playhouses Review & Giveaway (Ends 4/23)

Okay so a few months ago I bought a giant beanbag chair which came in a giant box.  Now the box was dirty because it was shipped in it and it had markings all over, but my boys loved it.  They played with that box for almost two weeks before it finally couldn’t be taped back together!  Then and only then did they play with the beanbag I bought!  I was so amazed and joked that from now on I was just giving them empty boxes for presents!

Well two dads and a grandfather in Atlanta saw that their kids were captivated by moving boxes instead of their playthings, so they formed KidsCraft Playhouses.  Made with 100% recycled material and made in the USA, KidsCraft Playhouses offers two sturdy designs available online and at specialty retailers.  The best part is that the designs are completely blank and white on the outside, which is perfect for coloring on!

The two designs available are the Shuttle Imagination and the Creation Cottage.  Both are specifically designed with flaps and pre-cut slots so you can easily assemble the house or spaceship.  So no need for cutting, taping, or measuring, or batteries!  You can use anything you want to decorate them too, whether it be crayons, markers, paint, or craft supplies.  The possibilities really are endless!  I would definitely supervise though with arts and craft supplies so you don’t find marks or items throughout your house.

Both of the structures are built for indoor or outdoor play, but obviously they are not meant for wet environments.  They are also pretty big that at least two kids should fit in each.  I think both two are great for either gender and definitely are great for a rainy day!  I can even see either structure being great for breaking out during a birthday party and letting all the kids color it, obviously careful though that they don’t all try to squeeze in!

Also, if you redeem your sales receipt online at www.kidscraftusa.com, then KidsCraft will mail a free 8-pack of crayons to you.  The crayons are even 100% recycled from unwanted crayons.  KidsCraft is also working with various charities and partnered with the Trees for the Future Foundation.

MY THOUGHTS:

I think KidsCraft Playhouses are genius!  I mean they took cardboard boxes to a whole new level.  They now offer a clean surface for kids to decorate on their own and are sturdy enough to last.  I love too that they already have windows and doors pre-cut! (You should have seen the window I cut in the box from the beanbag that my boys played in!)

We received the Creation Cottage (42”L x 39”W x 54”H) and decided to keep it in our basement.  My son has wanted to open it since it arrived, since the outside box had a picture of what it was.  I decided on the Creation Cottage because it is a little bit bigger than the Shuttle Imagination and I thought both boys would fit better in there, but don’t get me wrong the Shuttle Imagination is still big (39”L x 34”W x 72”H with 12” long fins).  Each playhouse is though designed to comfortably fit 2-3 children.

So it took me and my twelve year old sister about ten minutes to put it together and because we were winging it, we put it on a little backwards so I had to take it apart and redo it – so I recommend following the instructions even though it seems super easy!  Once it was together the kids had a blast!  Coloring it was so much fun and there is so much to cover.  My boys even started coloring inside even though it is darker inside.  They even put their little plastic chairs up to it to color the roof.  Then we went inside and there are five windows and a door, there is even a mail slot.  Myself, my sister, and both boys were able to sit inside the house just fine.  Now we couldn’t move around much but we were able to sit in there.  As far as durability goes, it is pretty sturdy.  My boys are rough and were pushing on the walls and jumping inside all over and it held up.  We had a few issues were the corners were separating a little bit but I think that is because we had to put it together and take it apart so it wore the slot pieces a little more.  I think it will last us a while especially now that they know to be a little bit more careful and gentle.
