Lady Foot Locker Toning Shoe Tips: Take a Walk with Your Mom on Mother’s Day

Looking for a unique gift idea for Mother’s Day??? Well guess what, toning shoes are on her list…and it’s a gift that you can enjoy too!

Why not try something like this:

To My Dearest Mom (feel free to be as buttery as you want here),

I want you to know I appreciate everything you do for me–no catch. Every Mother’s Day I try to find you the best gift, but this year I’ve nailed it! It’s something you will love and it’s something we can do together.

Let’s go for a walk…a real walk–the kind that involves our feet, pavement, blocks, (maybe even miles?)–where we can spend some time and talk about life, and memories, and whatever you want to share with me. I found something that will make this time together not only enjoyable, but useful.  Toning shoes—shoes that will give our legs an extra work-out while we walk.

So, I’m wondering…what are you doing this Sunday?

Love,

[your name here]

And here’s what YOU will need to know to get started:

Reebok has the EasyTone collection (Kim Kardashian has been seen in these!), including the Reeinspire and Ree-Invigorate, and, New Balance just introduced the Rock & Tone, and Skechers has the Shape-ups.

Cathy Lang, our fitness guru for Lady Foot Locker’s blog, “The Club,” has some suggestions on how to maximize toning on your walks with Mom:

1) Put together a fun, calorie-free reward system. For every 10 miles you log, schedule a pedi or something else you can do together. No matter how comfy your sneakers are, your feet will have earned some extra TLC.

2) Be Efficient! Make sure your toes point straight ahead. Strike the ground heel first, foot flexed, without locking your knees. Keeping your hips centered under you, roll through the midfoot, pushing off the ball of your foot…and always keep your tummy tight.

3) Setting this time aside for Mom is more than a good deed. According to research, walking just 2,000 extra steps a day, or about a mile, is enough to keep most people from gaining weight. What I ALWAYS tell people about walking/running outdoors is that you will probably log more steps since you can’t just stop when you feel like it, as you could on a treadmill…you have to get home.

4) Set a goal. Sign up for one of the many ‘run/walks’ that benefit fabulous charities. Knowing we have to go out and “represent” will help us set a training schedule and stick to it.
