{Father’s Day Gift Idea} CEIVA Digital Photo Frames Review

ABOUT:

Founded in 2000 by former Disney executives with a vision, CEIVA was the first company to invent and market digital photo frames.  Their award-winning, patented technology has positioned their product line as the premier choice in the marketplace.  CEIVA frames are powered by their PicturePlan Photo Delivery Service.

The PicturePlan Service allows for:

  • Photos to be automatically sent to CEIVA frames
  • Photos to be sent to the frame from anywhere
  • Allows you to invite friends and family to send their pictures
  • No computer or internet required (can use a landline phone jack)
  • Photos can be sent from email, phones, and more!
  • Set deliver by dates to surprise friends
  • If your frame ever breaks, you can get it replaced for free.
  • Customize photos with text and designs and send them.
  • Get weather or news updates every day on your frame.
  • Unlimited online storage for your photos.

The CEIVA plans start at $6.95 for annual plans and $9.95 if you pay monthly.  When you buy a frame your first year of PicturePlan is automatically included!  There are two CEVIA frames available currently:  CEIVA Share and CEIVA Pro80.

About the CEIVA Share:

The CEIVAshare automatically receives and displays photos from faraway friends and family, as well as photos from your camera memory card. Perfect anywhere in any home or office, the high-resolution, active-matrix digital LCD screen displays photos with CEIVA True-to-Photo™ image and color enhancement technology. It comes with an easy-to-use six-button remote and sports a more traditional black matte and frame design.

About the CEIVA Pro80:

Designed for photo enthusiasts who want more ways to access their entire collection, the CEIVA Pro 80 offers built-in Media Server connectivity to let you stream photos instantly over your home wireless network. You can also connect over Wi-Fi or phone line (broadband adapter also available) for new photos sent directly from friends and family located anywhere in the world. Featuring a high-res 8″ display, memory card reader, intuitive on-screen menus and interchangeable faceplates to suit any home or office setting, the CEIVA Pro 80 is far different from any ordinary digital photo frame.

MY THOUGHTS:

I first noticed CEIVA before my son was born and I remember thinking what a great idea it was.  Since I didn’t have kids and back then I really didn’t have pictures I wanted to share (I was young and in college, enough said!) I made a note to check back with CEIVA when I had kids.  Well the first few years have flown by and now that I have some time to think, I realized what a great gift the CEIVA frames are for both family and myself!  I got the chance to review both the CEIVA Share and the CEIVA Pro80 and honestly I love them both.

I decided to give my grandma the CEIVA Share because I am horrible at printing pictures for her and she does not have Internet let alone use Facebook!  (The CEIVA Share connects via Phone line, Broadband or Wi-Fi)  I gave her the frame and she was able to hook it up with a few quick tips from me on the phone and yeah she is on her way to days filled with pictures of my boys!  I feel like the CEIVA Share is the more basic of the two frames and great for any occasion.

The CEIVA Pro80 is the frame I kept for myself because I love to look at pictures and  I was fed up with my old frame where I had to keep updating the SD card with new photos.  Now I just go to the CEIVA website or use the iPhoto Plugin on my Mac and add pictures which then automatically are sent via Wi-Fi in my house!  I never have to touch the frame and since I send pictures to Facebook all the time, I now just also send them to my CEIVA frames!  The difference with the CEIVA Pro80 is that it is more of a sleek and modern design as it comes with a shiny black frame or change it out to a wood design.  The CEIVA Pro80 also allows you to send more pictures a day and has Media Server connectivity.  I personally don’t use it as a Media Server, as I am fine just sending pictures to my frames whereas the Media Server ability allows it to be more automatic.

I received these frames right before Mother’s Day and didn’t have time to set them up right away.  The best present ever was coming down for breakfast that Sunday and sitting at the kitchen table watching all the wonderful photos my husband had added himself that morning.  He even added designs like “Number 1 Mom” and cute digital designs.

Now I think the CEIVA is an awesome present for those without Internet as it is wonderful how my grandma’s frame just automatically dials a number (within her area code) and retrieves pictures I sent.  She doesn’t have to do anything; I can actually even set up all the options on her frame from my computer!  For myself, since we have Wi-Fi, I love it because I can send pictures from upstairs or even from my phone when we are out and when I look at the frame next I know they will be there.  Now when my PicturePlan subscription ends next year, will I continue and start paying?  Probably, as I love the fact that the storage is unlimited and the delivery is instant.  The prices too are not bad at all as the CEIVA Share is $127.99 and the CEIVA Pro80 is $147.99, and since that includes a year of PicturePlan service I think it is an awesome deal.  Even if you don’t continue with the service you still got to use the service for a whole year for free!  A regular good digital frame is around $130-$200 and they require SD cards and manual photo updating, yes I am lazy and I want my pictures NOW!

Either frame would make a great gift for any occasion or a just because gift!  (Hint:  Father’s Day is coming up!)

BUY IT: Check out the CEVIA website for frame options and they even have deals with buying multiple frames, so you can get one as a gift as well as yourself!

Mama’s Money Savers Disclosure:  I received two frames for this review.  I was not compensated in any other way and this review is 100% my opinion.

  • CEVIA stinks. The technology is ok but the management sucks. I bought a CEVIA for my 80 year old mother when they first came out. CEVIA offered a "lifetime" subscription for a substantially higher price than the annual price.

Well, wouldn't you know, after some number of years, they declared the "lifetime" had expired. They were not interested in the commitment they had made to honor a lifetime of service.

So I will never do business with them again, and I will never stop telling how they ripped me and my mom off.
