In between swimming and playing in the sand, here are some great tips from
the Super WHY literacy experts on making reading a bright spot in your day at the beach:

Visit the library or bookstore: Before your trip to find some books about the beach to read together while dipping your toes in the sand or surf – they can be storybooks or nonfiction.

Encourage preschoolers to read the signs they see: Read the safety rules posted on the lifeguard’s chair or sound out the words you spot in skywriting or on those big banners pulled by planes.

Send a postcard: While you’re there or before you go, pick out some scenic postcards and have your child write special messages to friends and family.

Create your own book: When you return home, make a travel journal or memory book of your beach experience and fill it with lots of photos and captions – a “picture-perfect” reading boost and a keepsake that can last a lifetime!

A trip to the beach is an “open book”: Have fun and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Reading is power and Super WHY from Out of the Blue Enterprises is the only preschool property created to help kids learn the fundamentals of reading through interactive storybook adventures. The program represents a unique approach to preschool educational television, featuring a team of superhero characters with literacy powers, who jump into books for answers to everyday preschool challenges. The home viewer is the superhero sidekick, who is encouraged and empowered to participate in the reading fun through research-based literacy games.
