My 10 Tips for Planning a Unique Baby Shower #TinyPrints

Twittermoms and Tiny Prints wants to know ten tips for planning a unique baby shower.  Now I have not actually planned one yet, but I have been to a few and my own of course, so here are my ideas:

  1. Play games – I especially like the chugging from a baby bottle and guessing how many inches around the new mom’s belly is!
  2. Have appetizers and desserts – If you don’t want heavy food, I would suggest at least some light appetizers as women eat while they talk, and the pregnant mom especially needs something with more substance than just sweets!
  3. Have a variety of sweets – Since everyone is different and it is fun to try out new desserts, have a few dessert choices!  (Different cakes, cupcakes, brownies, candies…)
  4. Have a diaper cake –I am not creative enough to make one, but you can purchase them or attempt to make one on your own.  I loved my diaper cake and it came in handy after my son was born!
  5. Have the baby shower somewhere that the mom-to-be likes – whether it is at a relative’s home, park, or restaurant make sure it is stress-free for the guest-of-honor and that it is not breaking the bank either!  I personally like restaurants because there is no cleanup for you and the food is always delicious.  A restaurant is also relatively easy to locate for guests as opposed to someone’s house.
  6. Have men come – Yes I have heard of women bringing their husbands and the men also have to get involved and play the games!  If you have a lot of couples in your group, why not!
  7. Decorate!  – Other than at party stores and online, I love the Dollar Store and I can always find great decorations there.  Now of course the decorations are usually solid or plain, but not everything needs to come from a party store.  I like to get fancy decorations like banners, centerpieces, and balloons from a party store and the rest wherever I can get a good price and still match the theme!
  8. Have a theme – whether it be around the sex of the baby, something the mom-to-be really likes, or just a baby theme in general, try to stick to a theme and decorate accordingly.
  9. Get pretty invitations – I think an invitiation sets a tone and for an event that will be remembered I think a nice invitation is a great start.  Tiny Prints has some adorable baby shower invitations to choose from!  Along with the initiations to the shower mail a note that the guests can fill out with a tip, wish, or other sentiment for the mom-to-be to read.
  10. 10. Have a fun non-alcoholic drink – we had a punch bowl with a fun concoction at my shower that was non-alcoholic but had the fun of a real drink!  We even had little umbrellas!
