Barbara’s Bakery Cereal Review (& Giveaway Ends 9/10)

ABOUT:

While more people than ever are opting for naturally healthy lifestyles, making that transition can be a daunting task with so many options lining the grocery store aisles.  As a leader in the natural foods industry, and in honor of its upcoming 40th Birthday, Barbara’s Bakery is getting a natural makeover of its own to make its products easier to find and to help shoppers make those important healthy choices.

Barbara’s makeover celebrates 40 years of natural food heritage with four new delicious cereals and a completely new sustainable carton design!

Barbara’s proudly debuts three new High Fiber cereals, each offering at least 40 percent of daily fiber needs and 50 percent whole grains, as well as Multigrain Puffins, the newest addition to the popular Puffins ® cereal line, with gluten free and Prebiotic NutraFlora health benefits.

Starting in Fall 2010, all Barbara’s cereals come in 100% recycled, sustainable GreenChoice cartons (North America’s only certified recycled paperboard). Barbara’s products aren’t only good for the body, but they’re good for the environment, too!

MY THOUGHTS:

I try to feed my family healthier breakfast and snack choices, but I also face the challenge of finding something that they like.  So when I got the chance to try out a few of the Barbara’s Bakery items, I was curious how they would like it.

Puffins Original

Everybody’s favorite—ultra crunchy corn and oat pillows sweetened with molasses for a heart-healthy 5g of fiber and just 5g of sugar.

This cereal is a basic corn pop cereal that is sweet and crunchy.  I gave my son’s (2 and 3 years old) a bowl each and they ate it up like it was no different than their other cereals, than my 2 year old asked for more!  My husband and I also enjoy it, and I love the 5 grams of fiber in it since I worry we are not getting enough fiber.  This cereal is great either with milk or just by eating it by the handful.

Shredded Oats Original

The taste of crunchy, toasted whole grain oats and wheat make Shredded Oats a perennial favorite. High in fiber, these molasses-sweetened bite sized pillows are also packed with Vitamin C.

This cereal is a shredded oats variety, which my husband really likes.  The rest of us are not big into the shredded oats texture, but my husband says it is sweet and not dry like I would expect.  It is also high in fiber and packed with Vitamin C!

I also got the chance to try out some samples, including the new gluten-free Puffins Mutigrain, Shredded Minis Blueberry Burst, and Puffins Puffs Fruit Medley.  All of the are again delcious as I would expect nothing less from Barbara’s Bakery.

Overall, I think Barbara is definitely doing something right, as she first created her organic cereal twenty-five years ago and is still coming out with new flavors.  Whether you like Puffins cereal (corn-pop), Shredded, High Fiber, or Classics (like Corn Flakes and Rice Crisps) there is something for everyone.  I also discovered if you have picky eaters or just want to change it up, then adding some fruit to the cereal always helps!  I love that these cereal varieties are not jam packed with marshmallows and have some good health features, which can be tough to find on the store shelves today!
