Legoland Discovery Center (Schaumburg, IL) Review

Last month I had the chance to attend a LEGOLAND Discovery Center Media Event.  My family along with 50 or so other families got to have LEGOLAND all to ourselves and experience everything it has to offer.  First we were greeted by the manager who is so friendly and nice that you can tell he cares about his customers.  Next we walked through the different areas where they have LEGO models built – including a Jungle Expedition, Miniland city theme and other various LEGO creations.  The city theme was especially amazing because of all the details and building sizes!  Luckily it was blocked by a piece of plexiglass or my son would have been all over it!

(We brought our neighbor’s daughter because Gavin was sick)

(Dragon Ride – Aidan has his hands over his eyes) (Me and Maria from My Chicago Mommy)

The next stop was the Dragon Ride which my 3 year old is scared of because its in the dark but it is not that bad.  You basically sit in a dragon car and go on a tour of LEGO creations, but what is cool is that they sort of tell a story.  Then at the end there is this gigantic dragon, which is probably what my son is afraid of!  We also got our picture taken inside there which of course my 3 year old is covering his eyes!

We were then free to walk around and check out the free play area, which is on the top floor along with so much more.  There is a tunnel/slide climbing gym for young kids, an area for playing with giant foam LEGOs, which are only available there to play with not to buy unfortunately, various tables with LEGOs to build whatever your heart desires, a few race tracks, and another ride called the Technicycle.  So while the kids played I quickly got a chance to sample the buffet, which was delicious and had the perfect combination of kid-friendly and adult foods (so yes more than hot dogs and pizza!)  My sons love the Giant Soft Pretzels with cheese the best!  Our next stop was to watch the movie Clutch Powers 4D Adventure.  We had a nice introduction from the manager and then we experienced the movie, and by experience I mean we got a little wet hence it being a 4D movie!  After the movie we checked out some of the Model Building workshops, which were really neat because we were shown how to make adorable creations like a skyscraper and Frankenstein. Now I am by no means a LEGO expert so it was pretty cool to see what could be made with them and actually do it myself!  My 3 year old got a kick out of it too!

There was constantly something going on and something to do that it was amazing how much we did in only a few hours.  The best part though was the LEGOLAND Birthday Party which we got to experience what an actual birthday party is like in there, goody bags and cake included!  I can definitely see my boys wanting their parties there when they are a little older and how great would it be since they would be contained and have a fun experience.

Now I will say you don’t have to be a huge LEGO fan to have fun at LEGOLAND.  My boys are only 2 and 3 and love it there, we have been there a few times already!  I do wish there was more rides or something else to do there but then when I look at the overall experience there really is a lot included in the ticket price.  I also like that my boys can play with LEGOs there and not at home where I can step on them with bare feet!

LEGOLAND Attractions (included in your ticket):

  • Build & Test – Play with thousands of bricks and build whatever you want or build a car and race it!  There are also giant foam LEGOs for younger kids to play with.  Oh and for girls there is a princess area with pink LEGOs!
