Yes I am going to the #DisneySMmoms Celebration…Don’t Hate Me!

So yesterday at 1 PM CST I was frantically on my computer trying to register for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration Conference, along with hundreds of other women!  We bascially overloaded the Disney servers and many of us got this orange spining ball thing while it waited to load.  I had the screen up on my desktop and laptop waiting for a spot to open for me to register.  I got in twice and got kicked out on the first page, but I didn’t give up.  It took me 40 minutes but I finally registered and got my email saying my appliacaiton was received and was being reviewed.  I knew it wasn’t a guarantee that I would get in.

The email clearly read “We are currently reviewing your registration.”  I did have to fill in some blog stats and social media sites I use (Twitter, Facebook, Youtube…)  but Disney didn’t really state what the criteria was.  I basically filled out the form and waited.  Today, less than 24 hours after I applied, I received an email saying I was confirmed and accepted to attend the 2011 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at the Walt Disney World Resort.  I didn’t have my cell phone and even though I was off at Panera trying to catch up on my blog, I couldn’t take the excitement anymore and had to drive back to my moms house (she was babysitting) and scream “We’re going to Disney World!”

Now if you have been following along the #DisneySMmoms Twitter Hashtag or maybe you just saw the tons of tweets about it, some bloggers are so upset and pissed off.  Now don’t get me wrong if I was denied, I too would be hurt and upset but I woudln’t throw a Twitter tempertandtrum either.  I would silently cry and vent to my husband!  There are bloggers who are being so mean on Twitter that I hope Disney doesn’t cancel future Disney conferences due to the bad press or bitching.  We are all adults, can’t we be happy for one another?  Some are even bitching that Disney lied (people thought that because their application was accepted that they would be approved, it is an application for a reason) and others are bitching that they had to cancel travel plans they already made!  I can’t believe people made travel plans yesterday after applying, that is crazy!  I wouldn’t even look at the Grand Floridian website (where we will be staying) because I didn’t want to get too excited in case I didn’t make it.  I was up all night driving my husband crazy asking him what more I could have done, what if I typed in our credit card number wrong or what if I just don’t make it – I finally realized I did everyhing I could and had to just wait.

So anyways, yes I got accepted and please don’t hate me for that.  I will definitely be sharing all my expierences and picutres and I hope to make everyone feel like they were there too.  Now this isn’t until March in case you were wondeirng.  I just had to vent and get this off my chest!

By the way, if you are going let me know!  If your not, I am sorry and if I could fit you in my suitcase I would take you with me!

  • My fingers were shaking so hard, I had to re-submit the CC info 3 times! I was so haunted by the orange circle of despair, I started seeing it everywhere I went (see post)!
I'm with you on all points - I didn't even look at the Grand Floridian before I got the acceptance email.

I'm glad the negativity on twitter & fb is dying down, it's so fun to be excited w/o fear of being criticized as "not good enough" to be included.

    See you in March!

  • I am also one of the VERY lucky ones who got picked to go and after seeing all the bloggers who applied, I was worried that I wouldn't. I am a small blogger who is trying to get bigger, but figured that the others who are much bigger than I am would get in, I don't have the followers or the stats, so I figured "Who am I that Disney would want ME???"
I also saw all the terrible things that people said on Twitter and was so embarrassed by these "grown-ups" and their tantrums. I would have been like you - crying to my hubby that I didn't get in and congratulating the lucky people who did get to go.
It is going to be an amazing experience and I am SO grateful to Disney for offering it to us. I am looking forward to meeting all of you! HUGS!! Let the planning begin.

  • I'm pretty sure I wouldn't cry or fuss or anything if I didn't get picked. Of course, I didn't try, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. Honestly, though, it's not that important. Woohoo for you guys who are going, though! You'll have a blast and learn lots, I'm sure. Still, tears? Really?

  • Congratulations! I have heard of this and didnt even try but hopefully you can ignore the crazy people and celebrate the excitement with your family!

  • I TOTALLY agree with you on this. Not because I made it either. Even if I didn't make it we had decided we would go anyway. Not everyone gets picked for everything. I think that those throwing the fits are just making themselves look bad. Stating how you feel is one thing. Condemning those who are going is alnother. Can't wait to see you!

  • I was totally worried that I typed in the credit card number wrong! But the charge went through today, so it's all good. There was no mistake, I'm going to conference!

I've been on the GF website all day *squeee* I'll see you there!

  • I got in too and am so excited. I'm with you, we didn't do any planning or make any reservations because it wasn't a sure thing. With all the moms out there trying to get a spot, I knew my chances were pretty slim. So glad I did get a spot. Can't wait to see you there! Congratulations!
