2011 “Simple Steps, Big Impact” with Musselman’s Apple Sauce

ABOUT:

Musselman’s wants to help everyone start off 2011 by taking two easy steps that make a huge difference for a healthy New Year:  Simple Steps, Big Impact!

Once again, Musselman’s is kicking off the New Year partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation. (The NBCF is dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for those in need.) Musselman’s understands the importance of early detection, and is hopeful that their partnership with the NBCF will encourage people to take this first Simple Step in improving their health by having a mammogram in 2011.

Some Breast Cancer Stats:

  • When breast cancer is found early, the 5-year survival rate is 98%.  Over 2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.
  • One woman in eight who lives to age 85 will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.
  • 70% of breast cancers are found through breast self-exams. Self-exams should be performed montly.
  • Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Not all lumps are detectable by touch.  A regular mammogram -low dose X-rays that can detect breast cancer up to 2 years before it can be felt.
  • Eight out of ten breast lumps are not cancerous.  If you find a lump, don’t panic – call your doctor for an appointment.

What else can you do to help promote mammograms? In the month of January, for every package of Musselman’s Natural and Healthy Picks Apple Sauce purchased, they will donate ten cents to the NBCF. Last year they reached $85,000! You can find more information about these efforts here: http://musselmans.com/NBCF.aspx.

And since good health starts with nutritious eating, Musselman’s Apple Sauce would like you to take a second Simple Step in 2011 by substituting natural apple sauce for the oil in your favorite baked goods. The result is great, moist taste with less fat and calories!

MY THOUGHTS:

I love Musselman’s products in general and I especially love them as a company.  They are always doing something to help out great causes or just help out people in their everyday lives.  Their partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation is awesome and I love that as a consumer I can not only purchase great applesauce but also help donate to a great cause!

As far as substituting Musselman’s apple sauce for vegetable oil in recipes, I honestly never thought of that.  It is such a great way to cut back on fat and calories while keeping recipes moist and delicious.  I received the book “Substitute Yourself Skinny” by famous chef Susan Irby, which contains hundreds of simple substitutions to make recipes healthier, including using apple sauce instead of oil when baking.
