Lately I have been thinking about my college degree. I went to school for Operations Management but since the job market wasn’t the greatest when I graduated I didn’t get a job in my field. I worked as a bank auditor which I guess somewhat deals with operations. My field dealt with jobs that would be in a manufacturing facility where I would manage day-to-day operations. So I would deal with all the machines, such as conveyors, and workers.
I remember one job interview I went on where I was asked how I would handle everything, especially the mainly men workers who worked there and drove the supply trucks. I thought I answered the question good but apparently it wasn’t good enough.
With different companies come different systems that of course the company’s wanted the potential applicant to have experience in. Since I was just out of college I had no real-life experience, but I had read about most of the popular systems. One was the print and apply system, which is mainly how products and boxes are labeled. Another system is the picking system, which is more sorting and packing the boxes.
I suppose by the time I am ready to jump back into the job market there will be tons more systems and methods out there that I will have to learn. Or maybe I will just go back to auditing, which I did really like. Either way I don’t see myself going back to work anytime soon. It just isn’t worth the daycare costs for how little I would probably make.
