Piggyback Rider Review

ABOUT:

Now there is a new way to offer Piggybacks to your kids!  So no more hair pulling, sore neck or back pain, or worrying about dropping your child!  The Piggyback Rider is a backpack-like child carrier that children stand on a shoulder-mounted foot bar while being strapped into harness for safety.  Kids love the view and parents love the weight distribution and safety harness.

Features:

  • For kids 2 ½ to 7 years old (up to 60 pounds)
  • Weighs less than three pounds and size of a rolled towel
  • Built with a shoulder mounted foot bar for child to stand on, four integrated grab handles to hold, and a safety harness to secure the child.
  • Made of strong and sturdy high quality climbing buckles, webbing and tempered aluminum bar.
  • Comes in a convertible multipurpose storage bag/mudflap
  • Allows adult to stand much straighter than the typical 30-40 degree slouch associated with old-fashioned Piggyback method.
  • So many uses – walking through the mall, amusement park, sports game, hiking and more!

MY THOUGHTS:

My boys love piggybacks and I admit to giving into them, but I definitely regret it later.  I usually just find it easier to give them a piggyback rather than trying to chase them or argue with them.  My poor husband has given numerous piggybacks and while our boys are pretty lightweight, they still are heavy.  I also worry constantly about them falling backwards, not to mention the back and neck strain I end up with.  They are also notorious hair pullers on our backs, usually not on purpose but rather a reflex.

So I admit first looking at the Piggyback Rider I thought it was A) complex to wear and B) not something we’d use enough.  When I first opened the Piggyback Rider I thought it had to be put together, but you only have to attach the child harness strap and the carrying bag if you want to use it as mud flap.  My husband strapped it on and my 4 year old couldn’t wait to jump on his back!  It does require two people to put the child up there and strap him or her in, but my son is able to slide out on his own when my husband gets down.  It works best if the adult is down and the child gets on and off that way.  My husband said it was much better having my son on the Piggyback Rider rather than on his back.  My son was more supportive since he was strapped on and standing up straight.  Neither of them was hunching over and my son was safer than just holding on.

(My son wasn’t wearing shoes but it is recommended to wear shoes while riding)

I am always so worried that my son would let go and fall or that my husband wouldn’t hold on good enough.  My husband has free hands now also which is going to be nice for when we are out.  We haven’t been anywhere yet to really take advantage of the Piggyback Rider, just around the house so far since the weather is still cold!  I can’t wait to take it with us to amusement parks, picnics, and just walks to the park even!  Really it could be used indoors at a mall or other similar event.  Storing the Piggyback Rider is super easy and I am planning on just keeping it in the car for when we are out!

BUY IT: The Piggyback Rider can be purchased for $79.99 free shipping (also available in pink) directly from Piggyback Rider online or check out the Where to Buy map.
