MY THOUGHTS:

I am pretty sure I had the Classic Turtle Sandbox when I was little (or at least my brothers did and I played in it) and loved it.  Little Tikes makes such classic toys that I love I can share the same toys I had as a kid with them, but maybe with some extra features!

This new 33^rd Anniversary Turtle Sandbox is the perfect sandbox for kids ages 1-6 years old.  It is big enough for one child to sit inside, but my boys prefer to sit around it and dig in it.  Around the edge of the sandbox is a maybe 2 inch wide “river” which holds two gallons of water.  It comes with a spinner to create waves and three soft, floating and squirting turtles.  So far we have only filled the rim once because the weather has been so crazy here, but my boys loved the floating turtles and that they had easily accessible water to play with the sand.

The sand portion is a big circle area that is deep enough to dig and bury treasures!  It holds 150 lbs. of sand (not included) that I bought regular play sand at our local home improvement store for $1.50 a bag.  I do recommend having extra sand on hand as at least for us, sand ended up in the grass so we would just throw in another bag of sand.

Overall, I cannot believe how long my boys play with this sandbox.  I did think they were going to be too big for it since they are 2 and 4 years old, but they love it and it is small enough to fit nicely in our yard and still big enough for 2-3 kids to play with.  It is also lightweight when empty so it is easy to move or store away.  I will say the only thing I was a little disappointed with is that while the lid does fit nicely on top and it does have a tether cord to keep the lid attached to the sandbox, there is nothing to clip it onto it.  We have some pretty windy days here in Chicago and stray cats so I do put a heavier toy on top of the sandbox while not in use so the lid doesn’t blow off.  I think a bungee cord would work too but we didn’t have one long enough.  I have a feeling though we will get lots of years of use out of this Little Tikes sandbox and since it is a high quality product I know we will be able to pass it on when my kids outgrow it!
