MY THOUGHTS:

My husband is the only one in our house who really likes jelly, but when I heard about Hero Fruit Spreadables and the yummy flavors it comes in, I knew we had to try it.  First off I love the different flavors available, I mean how yummy does Strawberry Banana jelly sound!  My boys were mainly exicted to try them out because of the cool characters (Dora, Toy Story, Spongebob, and Cars) but hey I was happy they wanted to try it even if it was only because of the packaging.  Second off, it is awesome that Hero Fruit Spreadables are natural and free of artificial colors and flavors.  I was surprised to read too that Hero Fruit Spreadables contain more fruit per serving than traditional jams.

I set everything out and we had a Spreadable sandwich lunch!  Since my youngest has a peanut allergy, my husband was more than happy to try out the peanut butter and Mixed Berry Spreadable on some bread – he said regular jelly won’t be the same anymore.  I loved the Strawberry Banana spread on a whole grain tortilla and my boys loves it alone on the tortillas as well.  It spread on easy and is really full of flavor it doesn’t need anything else!  I will say though that it is not very thick so it can be a little messy sliding off the tortilla, but the deliciousness made up for it!  It is not watery or lumpy, but rather smooth and spreadable, just not as thick as peanut butter for example.  We are definitely hooked on the Hero Fruit Spreadables flavors, taste and quality and love that it is available at my favorite store, Target!  It is definitely a jelly to try out even if you are not a jelly fan like me!  It is easy for kids too because they can say they like the Dora flavor or whichever.

Here are some fun recipes to check out from Hero Fruit Spreadables:

Peanut Butter Jammies

Servings:  4

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of bread
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • ¼ cup of fruit spreadables (any flavor)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tsp. white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tbsp butter

Directions:

  1. Spread four slices of bread with peanut butter and fruit spreadables.  Cover with remaining four slices of bread.  Beat together egg, milk, sugar and salt.
  2. In a large skillet or frying pan, melt butter over medium heat.
  3. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture to coat it well and allow the excess to drop off.  Place sandwiches in pan and cook until golden on both sides.  Serve warm.

Jelly Roll

Servings:  10

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp. 2% milk
  • ½ confectioner’s sugar for dusting
  • 1 cup of fruit spreadables (any flavor)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  Line a 10×15 inch jellyroll pan with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.  Set aside.  In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar with an electric mixer until thick and pale.  About 5 minutes stir in the vanilla and milk.  Stir in dry ingredients gradually.  The batter will be thin.  Pour into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake for 8-10 minutes in the preheated over, until the center springs back when pressed lightly.  Don’t overbake or it might crack.
  4. Generously dust a clean dishtowel with confectioner’s sugar.  Turn the cake onto the towel and peel off the parchment paper.  Gently roll up the cake using the towel and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  5. Unroll the cake and spread an even coating of fruit spreadable onto the top.  Roll the cake back up into a tight spiral and remove the towel.  Dust with confectioners sugar before serving.
