I remember when I got my first new car I had planned on tracking everything in a vehicle maintenance log. My car came with this nice book to input in all the work I had done and such, but after the first few auto shop visits I slacked and stopped writing in it. I wish I had kept up with it though because there was so many times I questioned whether I got something done already and when and had to dig through my filing cabinet for receipts. I had a friend who did it though, including every trip to the gas station (to track his gas mileage) and the person he sold the car to was very happy, but I don’t think he paid anymore more for the car because of it.
Now people I think are too busy for maintenance logs because there are so many gadgets in the car to keep up with. From GPS units to cell phones and MP3 players, it is easy to get overwhelmed in a car. There is even gps route planning software and automated meter reading abilities to use now in cars. When I first started driving I had nothing and then slowly added a CD discman and then a cell phone which actually had to be plugged into the car to use it. Yes I had a big cell phone at first but luckily my cell phone preferences have evolved! Kids today though have it both easy and hard with all these gadgets and I can only imagine what will be available when my boys can drive!
