ERGObaby carrier Review

ABOUT:

ERGObaby creates products that promote and enhance babywearing in a safe, easy and comfortable way.  Their carriers allow for a hands-free way to carry your baby in the front, back and hip position from infant to toddler.  The design supports a natural sitting position for babies, eliminating the compression of the spine and hips and balances the baby’s weight so its easy on the parent.

MY THOUGHTS:

I have tried a carrier and a sling before but I never quite got used to them.  With three kids now I need my hands free and the ERGObaby carrier has been a lifesaver.  For me, I need something easy to figure out and quick to put on, and the ERGObaby carrier features both.

(Just some of the styles)

ERGObaby Carrier Features:

  • Ergonomic design
  • One inch, high-density foam in shoulder straps
  • Quarter inch high density EVA foam in waist belt
  • High Quality buckles
  • Waist belt adjusts from 25 inches to 43 inches
  • Fits from 5’ to 6’6” body height with adjustable shoulder and chest straps
  • Sleeping hood with elastic, adjusts as baby grows
  • High quality webbing, matched to carrier color
  • Reinforced stitching used at all fabric intersections
  • Durability/strength tested up to 90 lbs.
  • Machine washable

The carriers even comes with a Sleeping Hood, which is unique to ERGO baby carriers, that supports baby’s head comfortably so parents can continue their activities.

When baby carriers first came out they were probably boring and plain, now there are so many designs and styles to choose from that it is hard to pick one!  ERGObaby especially has such a great selection, including designs from Petunia Pickle Bottom!  The styles even come as Performance (for real active parents), Sport, Organic, Options (change out the covers to match your clothes and moods), and Original.  ERGObaby even offers some great accessories for their carriers that attach to the carriers, such as a back pack, front pouch, cargo pack, wether cover, teething pads, and infant insert.

I got the chance to review an ERGObaby carrier with the Infant Insert, which is required for baby’s newborn to four months old.  The Infant Insert is a super soft and padded insert that cushions your baby in the carrier and allows them to develop properly.

I put Olivia in the carrier on my front and she loved it.  I was able to walk around the house cleaning up, wash dishes, feed her a bottle (you can also breastfeed with it in) and even work on my computer with her still held close to my heart.  She is such a spoiled little girl who loves to be held and I love that I can still have my two hands free for household chores or to help my boys.

As far as putting on the ERGObaby carrier, it is super easy!  Just buckle it around your waist, then lay your 0-4 month old in the Infant Insert and place on your chest as you pull up the straps and buckle the back of the carrier up by your shoulder blades.  I found it to be very easily adjustable and had my baby snapped in and ready within minutes.  What I really though about the ERGObaby carrier is how soft and gentle it is, it is not firm or stiff but soft and lightweight.  You definitely need the Infant Insert though for babies though as it supports their head and neck until they are able to do it on their own.

So far I have only worn Olivia on my front since she is just so tiny and fragile, but I can’t wait to try it out on my side and back.  I carried my boys on my hip all the time, so it will be nice to carry Olivia that way but still have my hands free and be comfortable.  Putting her on my back will be nice too when we go out and do outdoor activities.

If you have tried babywearing in the past and didn’t like it (maybe because of the baby carrier you used) I highly recommend checking out ERGObaby carriers.  They are really high-quality carriers with so many great features and as a clueless babywearing mom, I found it very un-intimidating and something both my daughter and I love!

BUY IT:  ERGObaby carriers can be purchased directly through the ERGObaby website for between $115 and $160 depending on the style you choose, or check out the Store Locator for a store in your area!
