Throughout my college years I lived with a total of twelve different roommates. I lived in a college dorm, a five-bedroom townhouse and then a regular three-bedroom apartment. So you can definitely say I have lived with lots of personalities, all girls with the exception of one guy roommate. I was best friends with the girls, hated the girls, and even ignored some at times.
My most memorable experience (and yes I have tons) was probably the townhouse I lived in. It was my first apartment-type living experience and to live with four other girls right off the bat was a lot too. Well we started out good and all friends, although we weren’t even good friends before we moved in together it was kinda like we all just fell into rooming together. Paying the bills (rent and utilities) was tough with five people and it got pretty bad getting everyone to pay on time. Then it started to get bad with groceries as one girl in particular never bought groceries but rather ate everyone elses. It got so bad I started writing my name on milk, ketchup and so forth because I got fed up of her eating all my food!
Then came summer vacation where most of us, except that one girl, were going back and forth to home and the townhouse. She would have friends over and continued to eat whatever food was there and leave a mess everywhere. So when I would come up and want to relax there would be food, dishes and just filth everywhere. Then I remember seeing a stain on the couches that I brought that obviously was not cleaned up and got fed up – I grabbed all the couch cushions and locked them up in my room there! I also hid the televsion remote (the tv was too heavy to move) because I wasn’t going to pay the electric bill for her to watch tv! Yes I was being petty and mean but she was so ignorant and disrespectful.
So that was an example of a bad roommate situation I had, but then there are Sheldon and Leonard from “The Big Bang Theory.” They are best friends and roommates who pester each other to no end! This couldn’t be more apparent than in Sheldon and Leonard’s blinding Roommate Agreement which is referenced throughout the show. “The Big Bang Theory” shows us that living with a roommate can at times be difficult, but luckily for their sake they always make up. I wish I could have been on better terms with the one roommate I had my first year, but luckily I did have better experiences with other roommates. I think its important to be friends with your roommates, respect each others space and agree to disagree! Sheldon and Leonard definitely have the roommate situation down pat and even though Sheldon’s rules seem crazy it works for them.

"Roomates" has a strange quasi-status. It's like a friend but more or sometimes much less. There's no doubt, much like marriage, once you become roomates the relationship is never the same.
