MY THOUGHTS:

Two things I worry about in my baby’s nursery is whether it is too cold in there and how is the humidity.  We have a dry house and because of the way her room faces I worry there will be a draft.  So this Philips AVENT Baby Monitor is great because its two main features are that the handheld parent monitor shows the humidity and temperature of the room!

There are two main pieces of this monitor – the baby unit and parent monitor.  You hook up the baby unit in the nursery and the parent monitor I hooked up in my bedroom.  Other than showing off the humidity and temperature, you can also use the parent monitor as a two-way radio to talk to your baby.  Its like a walkie talkie baby monitor!

The baby unit in the nursery has a few more features including nightlight and lullaby buttons.  The lullaby button has five different songs it can play and the nightlight displays a small lighted circle.  Unfortunately though the AVENT instruction manual was wrong and you cannot control those two with the parent unit.  I admit that sounded awesome to me and I was disappointed when I called AVENT customer service because it was driving me crazy that I couldn’t get it working.  Apparently the instruction manual is wrong and in the US and Canada the parent handheld units do not have those features.

The reach of the monitor is 1000 feet but after reading more it says the reach is up to 150 feet.  That being said though I was not impressed with the reach of it.  I couldn’t get the monitor to work in my bedroom which is only just down the hall from Olivia’s nursery.  Maybe it is just my house and walls but I would expect it to work just down the hall, maybe 30 feet away.  I would definitely recommend trying it out in your house before you throw away the packaging in case you need to return it.

Overall, this baby monitor has a great concept to it, it just didn’t work right in my house.  Maybe there was too much material or some other interference.  I do like that I can walk in her room and check the temperature and humidity, turn on a lullaby or nightlight – but then I do think I could find something cheaper to do all those things.  If the parent handheld monitor worked it definitely would have been nice to check those items from my bedroom and especially use the two-way talk feature to soothe  Olivia with my voice when she wakes up in the middle of the night.  Hopefully someone else has luck.  I will say too that on Amazon this monitor has 4/5 stars so maybe mine was just a fluke.

BUY IT:    Look for the Philips Avent Baby Monitor with Temperature and Humidity Sensors wherever baby products are sold for a suggested retail price of $189.99.
