My ‘Number’ is 35, What’s Yours? {#SleepNumber m7 Bed Review}

The Sleep Number m7 bed is a new bed offered by Sleep Number that is no wonder it is rated with 4/5 stars (there always has to be that one person that complains)!  It is a DualAir technology bed that allows each partner to adjust their own firmness as well as feature a cool soothing sleeping surface.  There is actually 3-inches of CoolFit foam with gel technology!

My husband and I bought our bed nine years ago and since we were just out of college and buying our first house, we bought the best mattress we could afford.  I never really thought about it but I recently learned that Americans sleep one third of their lifetime!  That is a lot of sleeping!  If I would have knew that back then, I probably would have spent more time mattress shopping and allocated more money from our budget to it.  I mean if you think about it, your day revolves around how much sleep you got – your either well rested or not and both can affect how your day flows.

So Sleep Number here I come!  I never thought about a foam bed before but the more I read the more excited I got.  Our bed delivery day finally arrived and two employees set it up in about 30 minutes.  I was amazed how the bed came in boxes and how they built the platform out of these plastic pieces.  The mattresses actually inflate and then are placed inside a sort of frame, I actually watched the whole installation.

Yes I took pictures while the employees were setting it up, and yes I am sure they thought I was crazy!

How everything arrived (well out of cardboard boxes)

Initial inflating was done in the hallway to speed things up while the rest of the bed was set up

Done!

Once the set-up was down I was showed how easy it is to change my ‘number’ and as soon as I could I laid down and worked on it.  It is super easy to work, just push a button on a cordless remote to control how soft or firm you want each side of the bed to be.  I like hard, my husband soft, so the Sleep Number m7 is perfect for us.  Oh and the pump that controls the air does have to be plugged in if your wondering.

I’d say it took about a week for each of us to find our optimum sleep number, each night getting better then the previous, until we were “sleeping on clouds.”  I am a 35 (soft) my husband is a 50 (firm.) It is amazing how the foam just contours around your body and you sink into it.  Don’t worry its not like a weird foam encasement feeling, but rather a sinking into comfort feeling.  I really have no complaints about this bed, other than to say I wish I would have gotten one sooner!  I used to wake up every morning with a pain in my lower back but now I wake up refreshed and comfortable.  No pain.  I also don’t think I toss and turn as much as I used to which meant less actual good sleep for me.  Now I lay down and within minutes I am sleeping.

There is also the cooling technology of the mattress which I guess I never really noticed before how hot I was on my old mattress compared to this mattress.  Its not like it is cold or anything, but rather it doesn’t absorb heat like my old mattress did, therefore I do not feel as hot at night, or at least that’s how I look at it.

I did have a few thoughts about how long Sleep Number beds last (since traditional mattresses do get old and dirty)  and got a great answer from Sleep Number.  “Sleep Number beds are made with materials that inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as mold and bacteria so they are easier to clean and have replaceable parts so less beds end up in the landfill.”  It’s funny how I never thought of all the mattresses that are piled up in landfills, but with Sleep Number the parts are so small and replaceable so you can continue to use your Sleep Number bed for a long time! So a Sleep Number bed seems to be the more eco-friendly way to go!

Now I will say this bed is expensive (the queen m7 starts around $3000) but it is worth it.  (There are a variety though of Sleep Number beds to choose from and financing, so you do have options.)  Like did you know that Sleep Number is the only bed that is clinically proven to relieve back pain and improve sleep quality?  Nearly seven million Americans have owned a Sleep Number bed.  I feel too that if I am going to sleep one third of my lifetime then it should be on a good bed where I will actually get the sleep I need (and crave!)

  • This seems a lot more like an ad than a review. Especially with the sleep number screen shots at the top. I have been interested in these but I would really like an honest opinion and I dont think that this is it.

    • When I do write my reviews, the top is the "About" section where it is straight from the site. Then I add in My Thoughts which are completely truthful. Sorry you felt I wasn't honest.

  • I hated sleeping on this bed. Sorry. I was miserable the first night and miserable a week later and miserable till we stopped using it!

  • Whats sex like in a bed like that. Do you have to have a sex number? Is it better at a 30 for missonary or 50 for doggy style? Inquiring minds want to know...

  • We bought a sleep number bed8 years ago. We liked it fine at first but now my number (35) no longer works and I am unable to find a new number that is comfortable. It is like sleeping in a hammock and the bed no longer conforms to my body. Also, the edge of the bed breaks down whether you sit on it or not. My husband did, I do not. I thought the bed should have lasted longer.

  • I could buy a good used car for what this bed costs! But it's an "Investment" you say? That line of bull-squirt didn't work for the guys trying to sell me overpriced windows or "Polymer" (plastic by any name is still plastic) siding either.

  • I sooooo want one of these! We've had the same bed for almost 10 years now. I did get an awesome topper, but it's starting to run low. I may just have to go buy one. GREAT review!

  • I love our sleep number. It's 7 years old. I'd love a replacement. I don't know my number anymore, because our remote doesn't display anymore.

  • We got our first memory foam mattress recently. It does take adjusting to any new mattress, but I love it now. I've also slept on a sleep number bed, but only in a hotel (I think Radisson hotels used to have them). I was a 90 or something! I can't really envision both technologies together, so I think you need to invite me over for a nap. :)

  • I'm totally jealous, our conventional mattress is starting to sag. Sigh, what I would give for a decent, comfortable nights sleep.
