Bigjigs Rose Cottage Review

Rose Cottage

ABOUT:

A beautiful looking home with pretty pink and cream exterior, opening out to reveal four fully furnished rooms along with a hinged roof to the attic! Complete with functional doors and windows incorporating a fantastic sliding patio door at the back! Included are 6 dolls so you can start to play and create a little family straight away. Decorate and move the furniture wherever you like and have fun designing you own house. Some assembly required.

MY THOUGHTS:

When I was little I always wanted a dollhouse and while I do remember having some little plastic ones, I never had “the” doll house.  You know the one with all the furniture, dolls, big enough for two little girls (because I wanted to play with a friend) and magical looking!  The Rose Cottage by Bigjigs is not only “magical” but so beautifully crafted that it is sure to make any child smile!

First off the dollhouse is for ages 3-10 and it really is big enough that I can see kids playing with it up to 10 years old.  I have seen other dollhouses that are babyish or the quality in general is not built to last.  The Rose Cottage is made of a wood and painted with a beautiful design all over (front, back and sides.)  I have also seen doll houses where the back was left blank assuming it would be pushed up against a wall, but the Rose Cottage is designed to play with on both sides, especially after you take the roof off!

Side:

My favorite is the sliding patio door in the back!

What makes this dollhouse though really worth it is that it comes with six dolls (yes six) and wooden furniture!  After you buy a dollhouse to then have to go buy all the dolls and furniture makes the cost go up and up, but with the Bigjigs Rose Cottage, everything is included!  Right out of the box after some quick installation, it is ready to be played with.  Oh and as far as installation goes my husband was able to screw the pieces together in maybe 15 minutes.  Actually the part that took the longest was unwrapping all the dolls and furniture as they were all individually wrapped to stay safe in the box!

While this dollhouse is going to be for Olivia, my boys (3 and 5) loved it.  I admit I have stereotyped dollhouses as a girly toy (and my husband would totally agree) I found that playing with the dollhouse was so beneficial for them.  They loved arranging the furniture in different rooms and making the decision of where items should go.  Then I found them interacting with each other with the dolls, which is great for them to practice their speech and social interaction.  Yes the house is pink but that didn’t bother them and it was a nice break from all the crashing of cars and other boy toys.   My boys even knew to put the dog (and cat) outside for a walk and to go to the bathroom.

Overall, I am in love with the Rose Cottage.  While it does cost a lot up front (about $180) if you think about all the items you get inside of it, you are actually getting a deal!  This is a house too that your child will cherish and love to display.  I definitely see this house lasting us and really any toy that can last a day with my boys is built pretty well!

All the kids had a blast playing with this house!

The figures bend so you can stand them or sit them!

Even a toilet!

Doors swing open and roof flips up or lifts off:
