There are so many pollutants and chemicals in the home that it is hard to keep your home fresh and still eco-friendly. I guess I never really thought before about how air fresheners let out chemicals into the air along with all the other crazy odors in my house. I worry about enough with my family that I don’t need another thing to worry about in regards to my family’s health.
Well 3M has made it easy for homeowners to remove odors in their home while improving the air quality. The New Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter from 3M helps reduce airborne allergens such as pollen, mold spores and dust mite debris from air passing through the filter. The filter has a unique two-sided design, with one side that captures large airborne particles and the second side removes household odors. It removes odors from cooking, tobacco smoke, pets, mildew, and cleaning chemicals. So for three months odors and particles will be captured 65 times more effective than other carbon filters and then you just replace the filter with a new one.
Healthy living expert, Building Biologist and author Lisa Beres has some simple solutions to maintain a fresh home:
Kitchen refrigerator:
Clean your fridge with a few drops of natural dish sap and baking soda to remove odors left behind from leftovers. Also keep a box of open baking soda to eliminate odors before they start.
Pests and Repellants:
Instead of using a chemical bug killer all over your household surfaces set a line of coffee grinds, lemon juice, cinnamon or cayenne pepper around doors and windrows to create a barrier.
Cooking:
Prevent odors from spreading and lingering by upgrading to a Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter. It traps odors and gases by keeping them in the filter. Synthetic air fresheners, candles and incense only provide temporary relief from odors by masking them in one room but doing nothing for the rest of the home.
Damp Towels:
Wet towels are a breeding ground for mildew if left laying around. Wash mildew smelling towels in hot water with a cup or two of white vinegar then again with eco-friendly laundry detergent. Avoid mildew in the future by hanging towels up right away.
Pet Odors:
Since 72% of American households today own a dog or cat, reduce the smell of pet dander by bathing and grooming your pet weekly and establishing pet-free zones in the home.
Candles and air fresheners:
Instead of trying to mask odors with store bought air fresheners, create your own by combining 10 drops of an essential oil – such as lavender or eucalyptus – with two cups of water. Many air fresheners contain synthetic chemicals, such as formaldehyde, which can irritate eyes, skin and throats.
