Summertime with Bonefish Grill Taste the Notes Dinner Review

A few weeks ago I was invited to our local Bonefish Grill to sample their new menu items and learn about their summer program called Taste the Notes.  Basically every Thursday (through July 12) they have had a special menu that pairs half glasses of wines with music genres.  The program makes it a fun and affordable way to try out new wines, with half glasses priced $2-$4 only!

Now I am not a wine person at all and with seafood I really only eat a few items, but I make it a rule for myself that when I go out for an event I try something new.  So yes I tried all the wines (and then some) that they put in front of me and I tried every single food item too – my husband asked where his wife went since I was way outside my box.  The menu created for us though for the night was amazing and included a perfect variety of food and wine pairings.  As someone clueless about wine it was nice to have recommendations but not pushy ones where you should only drink red or white.  We had a mix of both to taste the differences and even heard about the backgrounds of the wines form the Bonefish mixologist!  My favorite wine ended up being the Jacob’s Creek Moscato and the darkest red wine we sampled (sorry I can’t remember the name), which are the extreme opposite ends of red and white wines!

The dinner was intimate with just myself and three other bloggers (Paula, MJ and Allison and their guests) and honestly it made me miss going out on dates with my husband.  I feel that the wine and menu helped me loosen my inhibitions with trying new things, especially as far as seafood and wine go.  I actually don’t think I would be intimated anymore ordering a glass of wine at dinner, especially not as Bonefish as the staff seemed very helpful.

Now I have been to Bonefish quite a few times before with my husband but I am someone who orders within her comfort zone of the same dish each time.  Now my problem will be how to not order more than one entrée and appetizer since everything we tasted was amazing! I can’t even pick a favorite as everything was so mouthwatering good, but the few that stand out are the classic Bang Bang Shrimp (no its not too spicy), Grilled Scallops, and the Kobe Beef Burger.  Everything was just mixed together perfectly and I would have never thought I’d like them.  Scallops are my new best friends, yum is all I can say!  Even if you are not a seafood person, Bonefish has awesome chicken and burger dishes, but I’d recommend trying at least a little something in the seafood category from there.

Dessert was incredible as expected but boy was I filled up from all the rich and delicious entrees and appetizers I sampled!

Overall, I highly recommend Bonefish Grill (especially the Schaumburg, IL location as the manager is so friendly there) whether you are in the mood for seafood or not.  There was nothing I didn’t like and the wines are affordable and amazing!  Oh and another thing that makes your dining experience unique is the music played.  The playlists are created using emerging artists from all genres.
