Yes I admit, we eat fast food more than I’d like. It is just such an solution for lunch on the go and we seem to always be the go these days! After a trip to McDonalds (or wherever we stop) it is inevitable that I will find the barbeque sauce pack flipped upside down on the carpet, fries in between the seats and a chicken nugget smooshed in the booster seat. Everytime one of the above (or all three) happens and you’d think by now I’d just learn to accept it. So I googled and I found this mom who used a frisbee to contain her child’s happy meals (or snack even) in the car, but nope that was only a little bit better. Then I heard about LapFit. Now please don’t judge, it is a solution that I found works for us and I am happy to have it.
LapFit model with EasyFit Cover to create writing or working surface:
LapFit is a tray designed for kids through adults that fits perfectly on your lap and holds your meal, snack, or with the EasyFit cove it is a perfect desktop surface for your car. It holds a drink, condiment container, juicebox (in the toddler version), food areas, and it designed to mount comfortably on your child’s legs.
Features:
- Compact (stores easily in cars and SUVs for kids to grab and use)
- Easy to use (no straps or cumbersome mechanics)
- Spill-proof (ergonomically designed to stay on lap — even with quick stops and turns)
- Dishwasher safe (top rack for easy clean up)
- Cool and unique (patented design is sleek and highly functional)
- Right-sized (for girls ages 3 to 15, in or out of a car booster seat)
- Safe (meets all CPSC and FDA guidelines)
So we put these trays to the test and on a trip to grandma’s (about an hour ride) we went through the drive-thru. I set my boys food on each of their trays and handed it to them. They thought it was the coolest thing ever and better yet there was no accidents. They even ate all their food (which they usually don’t) because they could see it and have the barbecue sauce and ketchup, which I haven’t been giving them due to spills. I am thinking these would be especially useful for long road trips but for now we just use it on our everyday adventures. The tray is not of course limited to fast food, it is perfect for anytime your child wants a snack. The other awesome feature though about these trays is that it comes with a cover to easily turn the LapFit from your eating surface to a working surface. My little guy can now easily color and play with his toys. The LapFit fit nicely on my lap and I love that it doesn’t need to be restrained at all, so yes the tray will fall if your child isn’t hanging onto it somehow.

In the house on our kitchen counter, finishing up his food:
Overall the LapFit has become our new car necessity. It makes eating, working and playing the car a breeze. Even my husband has tried it out with his laptop, which he has had to use in the car before and liked the surface. I haven’t ben able to try it yet (since I am always the driver) but as a mom I appreciate it. My sons even like to use it inside on the kitchen counter with their food as they love the little separate compartments. Theres really nothing I would change about the LapFit right now. It comes in fun colors, different sizes for different ages and is reasonably priced under $20 – worth it to me to save my sanity while in the car!
BUY IT: LapFit can be purchased directly from LapFit.com for $19.99 plus shipping or at Amazon.com, Learning Express Toys and Parent-Teacher Store USA — other retailers are lining up to put it on their shelves.

we have a rule that all garbage has to leave the car after we get home.
I only let my daughter eat dry snacks in the car
I don't allow it.
I let my kids eat whatever they want in the car as long as they be quiet
Only dry snacks in the car, no sweet or sticky items
They are allowed to have foods like chips and drinks in either sippy cups or water bottles. They always have napkins under them and they are pretty good about not spilling or leaving crumbs.
