Using My Droid Xyboard to Download Free Books From the Library! #VZWSS

I love to read, but unfortunately books can get expensive and with three kids I don’t have time to go to the library as much as I’d like. I also have jumped on the e-book bandwagon, which believe me I resisted since I love the smell and feel of a crisp paperback.

Here is how I use my Droid Xyboard as an e-Reader:

Download the free Kindle app! There are tons of free Kindle books out there you can download or you can shop the Kindle store, which has some good deals! You can also download one book a month for free from the Kindle Library if you are an Amazon Prime member.

Here is my Kindle bookshelf (just ignore some of my strange book titles):

Here is a screenshot of a Kindle page (you can view it vertical or horizontal):

Check out your local library’s website! My library has a section called “Downloads” which includes eBooks, audiobooks, and videos that can be transferred to a portable device or computer. eBooks can be transferred to Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, many Apple and Android mobile devices and other compatible eReaders; audiobooks can be transferred to iPods and other MP3 players. There are no late fees, no returns required and is available 24/7 through your Internet access. When I download a Kindle book, it goes to my Amazon account which I can check it there. You may have to download free software on your computer the first time you download something in order to transfer it.

Here is a screenshot after I click the OverDrive App and go to Books to Check Out:

Once I find a book it is super simple to Check it Out:

Now I know not every library has online books they can check out via OverDrive Media Console, but it is definitely something to check out!

Other than Kindle books, my library also has tons of books available through the OverDrive Media Console which is also a free Android App. OverDrive Media Console is basically like the Kindle App but it has other books available to check out since not every book is available in the Kindle format right now.

Believe me when I say I was resistant to reading on an e-Reader, but it is truly super convenient and honestly I get mad now when I can’t get a book to e-Read. Being able to have as many books as I want on one thin device that I can also check my email, website and whatever else on, is super convenient. I don’t have a lot of room in my diaper bag for books and my laptop so one device makes it so easy! I actually don’t even use my Kindle Fire any longer now that I can read those books on my Xyboard! Being able though to download books directly from my library for free though is a huge plus in my book and I am amazed more people don’t know about it! Need help? I am sure you can ask your local librarian!

Mom and More Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Midwest Savvy Savers program and I have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. Please see my Disclosure Policy.
