I am a total condiment queen and am constantly spreading or dipping with condiments. Well Musselman’s sent me a jar of Apple Butter with the mission of showing off how it is much more than just a popular breakfast spread. My husband who uses Musselman’s Apple Butter on his toast in the morning was skeptical at its use in anything else. From delicious desserts to savory sides and marinades, Apple Butter is really a versatile ingredient to boost a recipe’s flavor.
To get inspired, I headed over to the Musselman’s Recipe Page and chose Recipes with Apple Butter. I was amazed to see 47 recipes right off the bat! I would have never though of using Apple Butter as a Marinade for Beef or Chicken but what a great idea! Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie – yes please! Apple-Mushroom Slow Cooker Swiss Steak – oh my husband would be in heaven! There are so many amazing recipes but I chose one I could use as an appetizer since I tend to make those often for parties.
Apple and Blue Cheese Toasts

So I made this for my husband and I to snack on during the Bears game and he has already decided I am making it every Sunday and for our Thanksgiving appetizer. The dollup of Apple Butter on top of the cheese just gives it a sweet then the kick of the cheese. It is absolutely delicious and so simple! I spread it on some baguettes that we had and crackers and it was a perfect snack. Its funny how I would have never thought of using Apple Butter with blue cheese but it is a perfect combination! This dip can even be made ahead of time and then just spread on your cracker and top with the Apple Butter before serving. Since I always have Apple Butter, cream cheese and crackers, its usually just the blue cheese that I have to make sure I have on hand and we are good to go.
To mix it all together I used my new “Spurtle” which is a cross between a wooden spoon, spatula and a turner. It smashes the items yet also smooths it off the dish like a spatula to then spread it. Yet another versatile kitchen tool I have found myself asking “How did I cook before it?”
So from now on I am using Apple Butter wherever I can to add some zest without all the calories. My husband even uses it now to make his own homemade barbecue sauce, yes it really is that versatile!
