International Cooking from Dominick’s #DominicksIntl

I remember when a recipe that called for an “International” item meant a special trip to the ethnic food store. So yes I usually passed on those recipes or ended up switching out ingredients for a less than savory meal. Recently though I discovered that my Dominick’s (Safeway brand store) has a whole International food section (well maybe its just a few aisles but hey its better than nothing.)

Dominick’s’ stores actually have more than 10,000 new international items with great everyday prices including Italian, Polish, Hispanic, German, Kosher, Irish, Asian, and Middle Eastern. Some of the brands you may recognize include Reconto, Goya, Krakus ham, Nateczowianka water and Chio Chips.

I was given a mission to find two specific International items and then create a recipe with them. My items were: Dell’ Alpe EV Olive Oil and Kinder Bueno Chocolate (milk chocolate covered wafer with smooth milk and hazelnut filling)

So whats a girl to do when she has two random ingredients to cook with and no clue on a recipe, Google of course!

I found a recipe for “Bread with Chocolate and Olive Oil” and I changed it up a little to include the Kinder Bueno Chocolate bars I bought.

Ingredients:

  • Kinder Bueno Chocolate
  • Country-style loaf bread
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes

Directions:

Preheat the oven or boiler to approximately 325°F. Grate the chocolate bar. Place the bread on a baking sheet or heatproof plate. Toast under the broiler until golden on both sides. Spoon the grated chocolate over the toast, covering it completely. Pour the olive oil over the chocolate and sprinkle with the salt flakes.

Two ingredients I found in the International section at Dominick’s:

I just cut up the bar and smeared it on the toast, like you would peanut butter. Since the bread was warm it melted the chocolate and made it easy to spread – this would work with any chocolate!

Well Dominick’s wants to give you the chance to shop for your own International items and start cooking!
