A few weeks ago I headed to my local Wal-Mart and pre-ordered the new DVD “The Amazing Spider-Man.” My son is obssessed with Spider-Man and even though he is young for this movie, we had to get it to add to our collection. Now normally I don’t pre-order DVDs as we are pretty patient and can wait, but this particular pre-order came with two cool parts to it: 1) I will receive the movie in the mail with a cool Spider-man case and 2) I get to watch the movie on Vudu (which is free to join.) For just under $30 I was able to pre-purchase “The Amazing Spider-Man” Exclusive Blu-ray and DVD Movie Gift Set which comes with a limited edition mask dvd case! So yes it costs a little more than a plain DVD, but it comes with both the DVD and Blu-ray, a Limited Edition Mask DVD Case. Vudu is a rental service similar to Netflix or iTunes that you can also add digital copies of your favorite movies to.
Our pre-order:
We can watch any movies we add to our Vudu account directly on our Samsung Wi-fi Blu-ray player.
You can also watch Vudu movies on:
So while the movie won’t arrive in our mailbox until around 11/9 when the movie actually comes out, it was awesome for us to enjoy the movie before it is actually is out. We had kids and adults over, and of course food!
First I ran to Walmart for some party essentials:
My shopping companion – Olivia was excited to get a snack sample to gnaw on:
Lots of Marketside pizzas to choose from:
We chose Spider-Man of course:
Movie is loading, I am actually streaming “The Amazing Spider-Man” on Vudu it via Wifi from our Blu-ray player:
It’s here!
The cardboard Spider-Man was actually from the box and easily assembled:
Oh and what is a party without brownies:
Oh and even Spider-Man himself made an appearance 🙂
Closer to the launch of the the movie, Walmart will be releasing an Amazing Spider-Man themed Augmented Reality triggers that are featured on the pizza box and display pallet. The triggers will feature Amazing Spider-Man experiences on shoppers’ iPhone, iPad or Android in-store. All you do is scan different barcodes with your device and triggers will pop up on your phone for a fun in-store shopping experience. We didn’t take advantage of this as it wasn’t up yet, but will be checking it out hopefully! I did this with the Avengers movie and my son had a blast with it.

That's cool that Vudu can stream straight to your Blu-Ray player!
What a fun family night! I love that "Spider-Man" dropped in for the party too. ;)
