Games that are a work of art? Funnybone Toys has launched three new card games “Array,” “CUBU,” and “Spectrix” that offer not only engaging play but also vibrant colors and graphics. Play with them and admire them!
Connect the cards to build a beautiful array of colors. Add a little splice and slice to make the array explode! Wait ‘til someone tosses a splatter or SLAM card your way. You can play Array on a table – but for even more fun play it on the floor and see how big your array can grow. Be the last person in the game by building the largest array of color you can. Ages 8 and up
Array is a game that reminds me of Uno and Rummy combined. You receive these circular cards that you need to play off the colors of. Its seems easy enough but then there are some cards to mix up the game such as Splatter and Splam which adds points or cards to your opponent. So you basically build off the colors with the goal of the game to play all your cards and have the least amount of points at the end of the game. It is a game where you can actually play with young kids as you are matching colors and building off them, it just may get tricky for them with the whole point system or adding cards. I would say though about age 5 would be good to start playing through adults.
Visual illusion leads to confusion as you try to follow number and color sequences. Watch out for the action cards that could completely disrupt your turn. Get to 100 points before the rest and you’ve won the CUBU challenge. Play Speed CUBU and really test your visual perception! The CUBUTM design was inspired by Bauhaus artist Josef Albers’ famous body of work, “Homage to the Square,” a series of paintings that explored color. Ages 8 and up
CUBU is a game where you build off different colored cubes and honestly it is the trickiest (at least I think so) of the Funnybone games. Each player receives seven cards and with those they need to Play a color sequence, Play an action card, or Draw a card. You follow the cube colors and sizes to earn points, with the player who gets to 100 points first wins. There are variations you can play with less points or even a Speed CUBU game. After a few tries this game is easy to pick up and definitely unlike any card game I had played before.
Build and expand groups of beautiful color sequences. Mix and match your own and other players’ cards into strategic groups to be the first to play your entire hand. It’s not as easy as it seems! Complete and collapse a spectrum into “white light” to increase your chances of winning. Ages 8 and up
Spectrix is basically Rummy but with colors instead of numbered cards. Each player plays their cards in a sequence of same colored cards or following the sequence of the Spectrix guide card. You earn points for your different configurations and the last player to reach 100 points wins the game. I like how small the cards are and that it is a change from regular Rummy. It definitely brings a mix to the game too by trying to form the ‘White Light’ sequence which is all twelve colors in the white spectrum (don’t worry there are cards to guide you.) I really like Spectrix and it has taken over our usual Rummy game for now!
