My Wine, Cheese & More Party From ALDI

Last month I hosted a get together at my house and I was challenged to make the entire spread of food and drinks ALDI-themed.  I paired ALDI wine with their cheese and other snacks, and everyone was amazed.  To cover my costs I received a $100 ALDI gift certificate and if you know ALDI, that is a lot of money.  It was actually a challenge to try to spend all of it!

First off if you have never been to ALDI, you have to check them out.  It is a grocery store that carries more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased grocery and household items at up to 50% less than traditional grocery stores.  Also, I want to add if you had a negative impression of ALDI from the past, they have definitely changed.

So I headed to ALDI and bought so many amazing foods that I was sure my party would be a hit.  My first stop was the ALDI wine and liquor section.  ALDI has so many wines that are mostly at $6.99 or less a bottle, my favorite is the Riesling at $4.99 a bottle!  I picked a bottle of everything up since I don’t know much about wine and I wanted to have something for everyone.  I probably stood there for ten minutes staring at the different wines and all the different international varieties.  For those that like beer, yes they have beer too.

Next I picked up napkins, cups, and plates all holiday themed that were adorable.  Next up I picked up snacks, I got pretzels, a chex mix, and potato chips.  ALDI also has some great crackers that I knew would compliment the cheeses.  Then I headed to the dips and picked up my absolute favorite dip, French Onion.  The ALDI brand French Onion Dip is amazing and the best I ever had!  The seasonal section was my next stop and this refrigerated section does change, but always amazes me with the varitety and prices.  I picked up tons of cheeses from this section and if you have ever bought different cheeses before you know they are expensive.  During the holidays, ALDI carries a huge selection of gourmet and “fancy” cheeses as I call them.

I bought lots of cheeses since it was going to be a Wine and Cheese (and crackers and pepperoni and olives) Party!  To complete our party treat I also picked up olives and pepperoni.  I make a relish tray for every party we have and with the prices of olives and pickles at ALDI I can afford too.  For the holidays, ALDI even carried these fancy black olives in olive oil that I picked up.  ALDI also carried this flatbread pizza with tomatoes and caramelized onions that I just baked and cut up into party size pieces for my guests.  The pizza was for a great compliment to the wine and for a more filling appetizer.  I always feel if you are going to drink, you need to eat.

When my guests arrived, I received many questions over where my food and was from and everyone was surprised to hear it was all from ALDI.  My neighbor who is very particular with wine loved this Napa Valley red wine I picked up, another friend who doesn’t like wine at all loved the Moscato and my sister who usually pays $12 a bottle was shocked at the $5 cost of the Riesling.  Everyone was amazed at all the different varieties I had and that wasn’t even half of what ALDI carries as far as their wine selection.

Yes everything on this tray was from Aldi, and it was good!

Oh they have the best crackers ever!  And yummy Hummus that is affordable!

This Walker Napa Valley wine was a big hit:

Yes we drank wine from red plastic cups that I also bought at Aldi:

I was able to feed 12 people food and drinks for less than $100 and I had leftovers.  There was nothing that anyone complained over and many impressed guests.  Being able to throw a quality get together makes me happy and more so when it is affordable.  While the holidays are over, ALDI is still my stop for my groceries as well as snacks and drinks for my family and friends.  They carry my everyday staples and so much more, and I love that they are constantly changing their products to match the seasons.

You can also read more about my ALDI experience from checking out their headquarters and test kitchen.
