Cooking Hot and Cold Meals with Hungry Girl Flatout Foldits #FlatoutHot

Lunch time for me is basically the craziest time of day for us. I have one son in morning kindergarten and another in afternoon preschool, so between 12-1 I am getting one off the bus and the other on the bus. I am also trying to feed all of them and myself because after lunch my youngest takes her nap and I am usually trying to shower and clean up around the house. My other problem with lunch is that I am pretty boring and eat the same things over and over, which yes I get sick of. I can really only eat so many hot dogs, cans of soup, pizza and chicken nuggets, yes can you tell I eat whatever I am feeding my kids.

Well with a new year I am trying to eat healthier as well as feed my family healthier. Flatout Flatbread is something I used to buy for us to make sandwiches with and then for whatever reason I stopped buying them. I think what happened is I couldn’t find them everywhere and just grabbed whatever bread I saw. Something though about using a Flatout Flatbread though makes it seem like a fancier meal and makes it more interesting.

So I headed to my local Walgreens to pick up the Flatout Flatbread because I heard they were carrying it now. Now apparently everyone else had the same idea in mind as there was only two varieties available with just a few packages left. They were priced reasonable though so I grabbed a few packages and checked out what other foods they had. I knew Walgreens carried milk and bread but I guess I never really noticed the bigger variety of foods they have. They have lunch meat, cheeses, and so much more perfect for starting off your meal or for some making a meal all on its own. To save even more money without sacrificing quality, Walgreens also carries their own food line called, Nice!

I was actually hoping to fin the Hungry Girl Foldits, but I am happy I was able to at least get some Flatouts!

Hungry Girl Foldit Varieties:

  • SLIDERS Classic White
  • I was so amazed after reading about all the varieties and now I want to try them all! If you are like me and need some meal suggestions, they also have lots of recipe ideas, including pizza! Yes who would have thought you can make a pizza using Flatout as the crust!

So I was challenged to come up with two recipes using Flatout and some ingredients I picked up from Walgreens to make a hot and a cold meal using Flatout Flatbreads. Since Flatbreads are just so much more versatile than bread I didn’t have a problem at all coming up with something. I could probably post one recipe after another that I came up with, but I will share just two for now.

    Salami and Cream Cheese Flatout

    Ingredients:

    • Salami (or you could use another lunchmeat)
    • Cream Cheese
    • Flatout (preferably Flatout Foldit variety)
    • Lettuce

    Flatout Flatbread Quesadilla

    Ingredients:

    • Shredded cheese
    • Diced tomatoes
    • Flatout (preferably Flatout Foldit variety)

For the Quesadilla I used a Non-Stick (“As Seen on TV”) Frying pan from Walgreens, which was nice because it doesn’t require any butter or cooking spray. Just lay down your Flatout Flatbread in the warmed frying pan, sprinkle in your cheese and tomatoes and cook! Let it cook on one side a few minutes and then flip over. It only needs to cook a few minutes and then cut up. Serve with salsa or sour cream. I made mine basic but you can add whatever you’d like or have on hand.

Whether you are looking for a lunch or dinner option, Hungry Girl Foldits are really versatile and delicious. I like that they don’t have a cardboard taste like other bread substitutes and they are low in calories and high in fiber. Hey anywhere I can cut calories without sacrificing taste, I am all for!

BUY IT: Check out Hungry Girl Foldits at your local Walgreens (or grocery store) for an easy but delicious bread substitute!
