Getting around with NMEDA

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of NMEDA for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

When someone becomes disabled they have already lost so much that taking away their freedom too could be devastating.  I think of my grandma who was so active and then all of the sudden she was in a wheelchair.  I can’t even remember what put her in the wheelchair other than a combination of illnesses.  She could walk a little bit but pretty much she was wheelchair bound.  Back then they didn’t really have advances for disabled people to drive like they do now.

NMEDA is a non-profit trade association of mobility equipment dealers, manufacturers, driver rehabilitation specialists and other professionals that are dedicated to expanding opportunities for people with disabilities to drive or be transported in vehicles modified with mobility equipment.  They are basically a group of people who are dedicated to helping people with disabilities get going.  The organization promotes and supports mobility dealers and has since 1989, with more than 600 members mostly located in the United States and Canada.

The Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is a recognized accreditation program for the mobility equipment industry.  The program was developed to promote quality, safety and reliability within the industry.  Some states actually require a dealer’s participation in the QAP to perform work for the Vocational Rehabilitation Programs.  So QAP basically keeps NMEDA in check to make sure they are doing everything right and are staying in line with current standards.

With something like NMEDA and the QAP, people with disabilities do not have to be confined to their homes.  They can have the freedom to get out and drive or at least get a vehicle modified for someone else to drive the them around.  I know for my grandma she would have loved at least the option to have a modified vehicle.

If you know someone who would be interested in learning more you can visit a NMEDA QAP (Quality Assurance Program) Dealer for mobility solutions.
