I am often looking for snacks in our house that I do not feel completely guilty eating, but I admit fruits and vegetables are not my first choices.  I usually crave something sweet.  I also now am making lunches/snacks for two of my kids for school and they often want something sweet and preferably chocolate.  Well Sara Lee has come out with new pre-portioned Snack Cakes that are perfect for back to school lunches, for moms on the go, or a just because treat.

The line of snacks includes:

  • Devil’s Food Creme Cakes
  • Golden Fudge Cakes
  • Chocolate Creme Cupcakes
  • Golden Creme Cakes
  • Variety Snack Cakes

As someone who loves snack cakes, I love that these are not only individually wrapped in pre-portion sizes (I found it is easier to just eat one if they are individually wrapped) but that they are from Sara Lee.  My mom swore by Sara Lee when I was growing up and it is a brand I trust to be delicious and good quality.  The Sara Lee Pound Cakes were a must have at all our family functions.  Somehow though the Sara Lee name was forgotten about in my family, but after trying these new snack cakes I am falling back in love with Sara Lee.

I got the chance to check out two varieties:  Buttery Sunshine Cakes and Devil’s Food Creme Cakes.  Both boxes feature the “Baked Fresh to go” from Sara Lee and the snacks are 200 calories or less!  Yes they are still not healthy treats, but they are pre-portioned and I think it is easier that way to just eat one and to be able to monitor your calorie count.  Which did I like better?  Honestly it was a tie and really it depends on what mood I’m in.

If I am in the mood for chocolate then the Devil’s Food Creme Cakes will definitely hit the spot as they are super chocolatey and the white cream in the middle offsets the chocolate just right.

The Buttery Sunshine Cakes honestly sounded bland to me, but oh they are amazing.  They taste just like moist Sara Lee Pound Cake to me, but in small individual sizes (although I could probably eat a whole Pound Cake by myself.)  I savored that little snack cake and couldn’t believe I thought it would be bland.
