Using a VPN to Stay Safe From Identity Theft @HotspotShield #HotspotShield

The other day I watched one of our favorite shows, Bones, and one of the main characters was the victim of Identity Theft.  Now I know it is just a television show but Identity Theft is real and its scary.  She had all her accounts frozen, her work ID banned, warrants for her arrest for all sorts of crimes, new accounts opened and bills ran up to the thousands.  It made me add checking my credit report to the top of my list as well as my husbands.  I never thought about it before but I should also check our kid’s credit reports as well to ensure that no one is using their social security numbers!  That would be awful to wait until they go to apply for their first piece of credit only to find out they have a bunch of hits on their credit report already.

Now I am careful about my credit as far as paper documents go, but I am not as careful online as I should be.  It seems like everything I do online asks me for personal information and I wonder sometimes is it really necessary?  Its funny just the other day my brother went to a sports doctor for the first time and had to fill out all these forms.  One question asked for his social security number and my mom fortunately stopped him from entering it.  It turned out it wasn’t necessary for him to fill it out.

So anyways back to online safety.  One easy way to stay safe online is to use a virtual private network (VPN) like HotSpot Shield to enjoy private and secure browsing with encrypted data transmission, translation safe computer over a WiFi network.  That way no hacker will have the chance to easily steal your information while you innocently surf the web.  Its a step towards safety and preventing Identity Theft.
