Its that time again when it starts getting dark sooner and we change our clocks back from Daylight Savings Time. Its also the time of year when Energizer partners with the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and fire departments nationwide join forces for the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery program to raise awareness of the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. I think that is a great way to remember to change your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector battery – Change Your Clock Change Your Battery makes it so easy to remember to do it! This is actually the 26th year the annual program has taken place to raise awareness.
With 38% of fatal fire injuries incurring in homes with no smoke alarms and 24% occurring in homes where at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to being dead or missing batteries, it is super important to stay on top of changing out the batteries. Something so simple as a few batteries can literally mean life or death for your family if you think about it.
I actually have it marked on my calendar to change out the batteries and have them on the counter ready for my husband to change them out, no excuses in this household! I never realized either how many detectors and alarms we have and I honestly bet my husband has missed one or two in the past so this year I have enough batteries for each one and I am going to tell him to keep changing until he runs out of batteries!
To encourage others to learn about Fire Safety, Energizer is hosting a sweepstakes on their Energizer Bunny on Facebook (www.facebook.com/energizerbunny) for a chance to win a Family Safety Kit valued at $167 through November 3rd. It’s a fun way to get people thinking about an important topic – home fire safety – and sharing positivity within their communities.
BUY IT: Energizer products can be found at your local retailers nationwide.
WIN IT: (1) US winner will receive an Energizer Family Safety Kit ($60 value)

I always check my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors!
I definitely remembered!
We check them twice a year.
I wait until it beps for me to change the batteries or when the time changes. I only have one but a light flashes when it's getting low & I watch for that too!
Yes I change my smoke alarm/carbon monoxide batteries and my clock every 6 months. Thank you :)
I did not remember to check my detectors, but i do now!
We check it about every six months.
I do forget often :(
I remembered to check them.
I don't always remember, but I try. It helps that there are ads reminding us when we change to daylight saving to replace the batteries in our alarms.
