Disclosure: I received the app for free in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
Picture messaging and text messaging was not something that was around when I was a kid, but boy have things changed! Its amazing how my kids will never know what its like to not have a cell phone readily available. Right now they are fascinated with messaging, both picture and text. Since they don’t obviously have cell phones at 5 and 6 years old, I am happy to report they have the next best thing for a kid their age. They have the VTech InnoTab 3S which on it has the Premium Kid Connect subscription. (You can review my VTech InnoTab 3S here.)
What is Premium Kid Connect? Well it is an app that you can buy that allows kids to basically text and picture message their parents or whomever else the parents have allowed. Once the app is downloaded, parents just need to set up the accounts and approve contacts. It is very simple to set-up and once I showed my kids the app they were able to figure it out going forward. They absolutely loved that they could send my husband and I messages, which is so far their only approved contacts. Yes with the app, kids can send messages to their parents’ smartphones and tablets, all from their kid-safe, kid-friendly InnoTab 3S. Parents can download the app for free via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. In return, parents can then send messages back to their kids, for instant interactive communication. No matter where the parent and child are, as long as the child has Wi-Fi with their InnoTab 3S, communication is possible!
So to recap the messages can include: Voice and text messages, pictures, drawings and stickers all in real time! The InnoTab 3S does come with a one-year subscription of Basic Kid Connect which allows kids and parents to send text messages and stickers, but if you upgrade within the first two weeks after registering your InnoTab 3S it only costs $14.99 for the Deluxe Apps package which includes Premium Kid Connect. If you wait until after the two week promotional period then Premium Kid Connect can be purchased separately for $14.99.
Now honestly I didn’t have much luck with Basic Kid Connect (the free and included version) but for $15 I do feel the Premium Kid Connect app is worth it. The app works great for us and with the enhanced features of voice messages, photos and drawings it is even cooler. I have never heard of a kid-safe text messaging without a cell phone before, and leave it to VTech to be innovative enough to create it! I think this will be especially cute for my kids to text my husband while he’s at work, although I suppose I should explain they can’t send daddy too many messages! This really is a cute way for kids to communicate with their parents (or other family members or even friends when their approved) that is safe and encourages kids to jump onto their InnoTab 3S to check for new messages! My boys definitely use their InnoTab 3S more now that they can send and check for messages and I honestly cherish the messages they send me!

So far I just have my one son linked and they share his account, but its only a matter of time before my other son wants his own account:
These are some virtual stickers he has sent me, they all make a small noise as well (don’t mind that he is a ballerina!):
