I got the chance to check out the Disney Sofia the First Transforming Dress & Trunk and my daughter loves it, and for my boys we had to check out the Hot Wheels Card Maker by Mattel.  Kmart does have a holiday toy catalog as well, with lots of hot toys for all ages.

Hot Wheels Car Maker by Mattel

Boys can make their very own vehicles in a matter of minutes! The Hot Wheels Car Maker turns a stick of wax into a fully functioning Hot Wheels car that kids can customize with decals. This innovative machine features cool lights, music, and voice prompts that lead kids through the entire car-making process — from revving up to cooling down. It’s creative play for every Hot Wheels fan!

Car Maker comes with two molds, 10 Protoshotz wax sticks, three chassis, and sticker sheets.

So my 5 year old has been begging for the Hot Wheels Car Maker since he first saw it in the Kmart flyer.  It was one of his must-have toys and I love that Kmart makes it so easy to get ahold of!

So what did we think of the Hot Wheels Car Maker?  It is an awesome idea and for the price of $50, you are able to make 10 cars.  You can of course buy refills as well so the fun doesn’t have to end!  Setting up the Car Maker was super easy and we were ready to make cars in no time.

Now to make cars all you do is turn it on to let it warm up, push the handle down to heat up the wax stick and then it will cool off and you can open up to check out your car.   We were able to make one car perfectly fine, but then we got stuck.  I am not sure if it was user error or our machine was defective, but we broke the wax stick inside the machine and couldn’t get it out.  Luckily Mattel has fabulous customer service and they are going to send me out a replacement.  I am absolutely happy to try out the machine again because the concept really is a great one.  I also did lots of research online and all the reviews seem positive so I think we were just one of those odds that didn’t make it.  There are not too many crafty ideas out there for boys and I know for my boys, cars are one of there treasured toys.

The car that we did make though is awesome.  It is a lot better than I honestly imagined.  The wax is sturdy and not breakable, I was worried it would be mushy and easily dented like wax but it gets pretty hard.  You then put it on one of the Hot Wheels chassis bottoms and then you can decorate it with included stickers if you’d like.  It does take awhile to warm up and complete the process, but the outcome of the car is worth it.  Hopefully we don’t have any troubles when we get our new Hot Wheels Car Maker, and if we don’t I will definitely be buying new refill kits.
