A gripping adventure for the whole family, Against the Wild begins with siblings Zach (Adams) and Hannah (Pitt) traveling by seaplane with Chinook, their Alaskan Malamute, to visit their father (Ted Whittall of “Beauty & The Beast”) for the weekend. When their plane encounters engine trouble, the pilot is forced to make an emergency landing in the woods in the middle of nowhere. As they travel on foot to seek help, Zach, Hannah and their loyal companion come face-to-face with the challenges of the wilds – from wolves and grizzly bears to forest fires. Using all the wilderness skills they know – and with some help from Chinook, the siblings must work together to overcome each obstacle and conquer the ultimate goal – returning home again.
Against the Wild has been approved for all ages by the Dove Foundation, which awarded the film with 5/5 Doves, and recommends it as “a terrific film for the entire family!.”
I watched this with my boys ages 5 and 7 years old and we all enjoyed it. From an adult perspective the acting was a little cheesy and storyline predictable but for young kids, it is a great family movie. My boys got really excited about everything the young boy knew how to do to survive due to him being in cub scouts. There were some “scary” parts of real animals trying to scare the kids, but there weren’t bloody or anything. This was a great movie though to teach kids how to work together (especially with siblings) and how things may seem scary but they just need to think about the problem. Simple story line like I said where at the end the family ends up together (the parents started out separated in the beginning.)
