Getting Rid of Allergy Eyes #EyesonVISINE

Disclosure:  This post is part of a VISINE campaign and The Motherhood, who sent me VISINE and compensated me for my time.

It is estimated that 1 in 5 Americans suffer from allergies and unfortunately I am one of them.  I’ve always had allergies and until recently I would use taken a pill or use a wet washcloth on my eyes.  Allergy is actually the fifth leading chronic disease in the U.S. among all ages and the third most common chronic disease among children under 18 years old.

Eye allergies happen when airborne allergens or other particles land on the surface of the eye causing redness and irritation.  For me, my eyes start tearing up immediately and itch like crazy!

Other symptoms eye allergies can cause are:

  • Redness
  • Swelling and puffiness of the eyelids
  • “Foreign body sensation”
  • Burning sensation
  • Watery eyes

Well VISINE Eye Drops has a product specifically for allergy sufferers called VISINE-A Eye Allergy Relief Eye Drops.  They are drops that temporarily relieve itchy, red eyes due to pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair and dander.  The drops are clinically proven effective for eye allergy relief and help users get back to their lives.  By combining an antihistamine with a redness reliever to temporarily relieve eye itchiness and redness, users can rid themselves of the allergy symptoms on their eyes.  I didn’t realize that even contact lens wearers can use VISINE, but yes they can!

I haven’t had the chance to test out VISINE, yet, but I love that I have it for when I need it.  It is funny how a small bottle can make the day go smoothly and offer much needed relief.

Here are some allergy tips from VISINE:

INDOORS:

  • Wash linens and clothes regularly
  • Keep windows shut to keep out pollen and other outdoor allergens
  • Vacuum and dust often to reduce indoor allergens, such as dust and pet dander
  • Run the air conditioner or air filter to sift out allergens. Make sure to keep those air filters clean and replace them regularly
  • Put allergy proof covers on pillows, mattresses and comforters to ward off dust mites

OUTDOORS:

  • Check the pollen count before going outside each day – pollen counts tend to be highest 5 – 10AM
  • Shower after being outdoors to remove allergens that may have stuck to you. Use a sterile saline eye wash to flush allergens out of your eyes
  • Do not hang laundry to dry outdoors because allergens can stick to the clothes
  • Glasses and sunglasses act as a barrier or shield to minimize allergens from sticking to your eyes
  • If you prefer to wear contact lenses, choose a daily disposable lens, which can minimize accumulation of allergens as well. Contact lens wearers can use VISINE®-A® Eye Allergy Relief, but need to remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting contact lenses after using the drops
