Raging Waves (Illinois’ Largest Waterpark) {Review} #WelcomeToSummer

Disclosure:  My family received complimentary admission in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Back in 2010 my family and I attended an awesome waterpark that somehow we forgot about.  Well we didn’t forget but I had a baby  shortly after and honestly a waterpark with a baby does not sound fun to me.  Well this year my kids are almost 3 years old, 6 and 7 years old, seriously perfect ages for waterpark fun.  So we headed there this past weekend and my kids had a blast, so much so that we stayed for 7 hours!

So what did we do for 7 hours?

Hung out in the kids area:

Wave pool

Lazy river (again, again, and again…)

Multiple waterslides

Sand (note:  next time bring sand toys!)

High Dive show

Yes that is someone lit on fire!

Lunch and ice cream

Drove a car:

And just enjoyed the park in general!

So what I will say is that Raging Waves is big enough that it doesn’t feel crowded but small enough where its not overwhelming.  Obviously there is plenty to do for 7 hours for our family of five, and my kids were already asking when we were going back!  I’d say the park is perfect for kids just walking through adults.  We saw plenty of teenagers enjoying themselves as well as adults.

Think Raging Waves is too far?  Really it is a quick drive as its not far off tollway 88.  It was strange too as we were driving through country roads and all of the sudden there was a giant waterpark in our way.  So we parked, for free I might add, and then walked in without waiting in huge lines!  We got there as soon as the park opened and pretty much walked on all the slides, although I will say the staff had the lines moving the rest of the day and we never felt like we waited long.

What else is good to know about Raging Waves?

  • You cannot bring in outside food other than bottled water (they do have special circumstances for allergies where arrangements can be made or you can get your hand stamped and eat in the parking lot with food you bring)
  • The food is basic park food (hot dogs, chicken, hamburgers, pizza) and its pretty reasonable at about $7 a meal.
  • You can rent tubes for the Wave Pool and slides for $5 for the day.
  • You can rent lockers with unlimited access (I didn’t catch the price on these)
  • The park is super clean, as in I didn’t see any trash or anything out of place the whole day
  • The staff is super friendly, everyone said “Hi” or “Have a Great Day!”
  • Kids 2 and under are free
  • Kids 48 inches or taller can use everything in the park
  • They have a zipline that is managed by a third party that you have to make reservations 24 hours prior
  • They are discounts online and at various locations
  • Lifeguards go through vigorous training as well as regular training each month in order to stay certified.

Overall, we will definitely not waiting that long to go back!  We actually received some free passes for my son’s through a Plunge into Fitness program (which is free, so make sure your school signs up) at their schools and I have seen some awesome coupons online!  Oh and it was a quick 45 minute drive from where I live, way worth it!

Almost there!
