Help End Child Hunger #ShareAMeal100 #ShareAMeal

Disclosure:  I partnered with Unilever in exchange for sharing my honest opinion and this information.

Did you know that right here in America there are 16 million children struggling with hunger?  Basically 1 in 5 children are unaware where their next meal is coming from.  I think sometimes we forget about kids, especially ones right here in our own communities.  Isn’t it just third world countries that have kids starving?  That is a misconception many people have or maybe they just don’t even think about.  These children can be your neighbor or even your child’s best friend.

To help shed light on the issue and be part of the solution, Unilever has created Project Sunlight to “Share a Meal to Help Turn the Tables on Child Hunger in America.”

Ways to Share a Meal:

  • Share a Meal Potluck – Host neighboring families for a dinner and invite a family in need to join.  Food can really bring people together.
  • Get Your Community Involved – Partner with a local community organization to host a community potluck in your area.
  • Host a Local Food Drive – Organize a food drive for your community or utilize the Feeding America online Food Bank Locator tool to get in touch with a local food bank to donate and/or volunteer to help.
  • Host a Virtual Food Drive – Plan a virtual food drive with measurable goals online using the Feeding America Personal Fundraiser tool and promote participation in your community.
  • You Buy One, We Give One – Look for the Unilever “You Buy One, We Give One” coupon offer in the Sunday paper on November 16.  Redeem at participating stores from November 16 – 30 and Unilever will donate one meal to Feeding America when you purchase any participating Unilever product.
  • Lend Your Voice – Inspire others by revealing why you’re helping to end child hunger on social media using, “I #ShareAMeal because…”

There are so many ways to help out others, whether you have a few minutes to drop off some food at a local food bank or you have the time to organize an event.  I always say every little bit helps and even in this case, just one food product can make a difference.  If everyone made just a small effort I can only imagine how many meals could be made and shared.

  • We love to donate food to our local food shelter, and we also join in on community events that involve feeding families in need. Great post to spread awareness.
