Disclosure: I have partnered with Little Remedies to share my honest opinion and thoughts.
When my oldest was a baby I remember his nostrils being so teeny tiny. Strange I know, but everyone mentioned his little fingers and ears and such, but I noticed his nostrils. The first time he got sick with a stuffy nose I remember freaking out because he wasn’t able to breathe through his nose and he couldn’t breathe through his mouth since he had a pacifier in. I felt so helpless and clueless as a new mom. So what is a new mom to do when she is clueless? Google of course.
Here are some tips I learned through my years so far as a mother:
Elevate your child. For babies, I found using their car seat, swing or even putting something under their crib sheet to elevate them helped. Being elevated helps with drainage and therefore breathing.
Cool Mist Humidifier. I never understood the value of a humidifier until my first child was sick. The doctor suggested a humidifier and as the good new mom I was, I ran out an bought one. Having moisture in the air helps with congestion and dry noses. Dry noses can mean crusty noses which for a child blocks their breathing.
Saline Drops. These are a must have for new moms. Remember when I said how my son had teeny tiny nostrils? Well saline drops worked miracles for him. Little Remedies Saline Spray/Drops is the brand I have trusted now for seven years with all three of my kids. I would just drop some saline drips by their nostrils and it would immediately loosen mucus in their noses. I could immediately here breathing, which was music to my ears. If your worried about medicine for your child, it is actually a non-medicated liquid with no side effects or drug interactions. Oh and its alcohol free so it won’t sting or burn those little baby nasal membranes. I have always kept at least one bottle of Little Remedies Saline Spray/Drops on hand, which even today I use for my seven year old!
Nasal Aspirator. One of the things I came home from the hospital with was this giant blue bulb syringe. It was huge and the tip of it never fit in my baby’s nostrils. Thankfully Little Remedies again saved the day and has a perfectly sized for infants and up Nasal Aspirator. It features a soft, flexible angled tip so it can be used gently in little noses. I threw the blue bulb syringe away and have since always had the Little Remedies Nasal Aspirator on hand. Now there is even a Little Remedies Stuffy Nose Kit that has the Saline Spray/Drops and a Nasal Aspirator – perfect for new moms especially. I will say though it is not just for infants, this nasal aspirator can be used on anyone!
Steam. This has never been my favorite as I hate the heat and steam, but my mom and grandma swore by its benefits. Sitting in the bathroom with the shower running and steaming allows for warm moisture to work its way into the nostrils. It has to be really steamy in the room and you have to sit in there to allow the child to breathe the steam in.

I snuggle them up warmly with their favorite blankets, make chicken soup for them along with some tea and honey. I use a vapor rub on them as well.
When my child is sick I monitor him for fever and I make sure he gets plenty of rest and fluids.
I give them lots of cuddles along with comfy blankets and a humidifier.
I make sure the room has fresh air, I make hot lemonade, water, and I always rub their backs, neck, run my fingernails through their hair and just watch them rest. I rarely leave the room, I even sleep in the rocking chair.
Gma Betty
I make sure that they get enough sleep and plenty of fluids.
I make sure to give lots of fluids and allow for lots of rest time.
I run a hot shower and make the bathroom steamy then sit in the bathroom with her
I'm graduating in a few short weeks and will then be a BSN/RN so when my baby boy is sick (or any family member for that matter) my nurses training comes out and I make sure I push lots of fluids and frequent small healthy snacks and lots and lots of rest!
I make them comfortable with a humidifier.
When my children are sick I make homemade soup, fresh juice and try to keep them in bed where they can get rest and get better.
