Celebrating 50 Years of Rudolph With New Books #Rudolph50

Disclosure:  This post is sponsored by Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.

“Rudolph the red nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose….” Try to say that and not keep singing, I can’t do it!  Rudolph is a character we all grew up with and for my family he is someone my kids think of as a hero. I mean Rudolph saves Christmas every year by lighting the way for santa, right?  Did you know this year marks the 50th anniversery of the first broadcast of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” which is the longest running and highest rated holiday special of all time?  I know as a child I looked forward to all the holiday specials on television and my mom would always frantically try to find a VHS to record it for me since I’d want to watch it over and over.  Now my own kids do the same thing but I am able to save it to our DVR.  Its nice though to be able to take things offline though such as with books and activities.

Square Fish, an imprint of the Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, has come out with six new Rudolph-themed books that span a variety of formats.  Whether you have a small child or big kid, there is a Rudolph book available.  The formats include a classic storybook, picture book, slide-and-find and lift-the-flap, ‘My Reader’ chapter book designed specially for beginner readers and for the first time ever a graphic novel starring Rudolph and friends.  I got the chance to check out all the books and my kids were honestly excited for books, which my boys are usually not!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Classic Story: Deluxe 50th-Anniversary Edition
Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition for ages 4-8

This is a great book for the whole family to sit around and read together.  The cover makes it a treasured book that families can enjoy year after year.  I love the artwork in the pages which my kids enjoy since they are young still.  This is a treasured book to own and one that will last because its hardcover.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Slide and Find
Board Book for ages 2-4

My 3 year old loves this book.  She slides those flaps left and right and up and down over and over.  I love that its a durable board book that is going to last a few years.  Even my boys who are 6 and 7 enjoyed browsing through the book.  It is a great beginner book for young kids to learn about Rudolph and start to love him.  It has great pictures and words in it perfect for curious little kids.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Lift-the-Tab

Board Book for ages 2-4

This is a great book for little ones as its a durable flip book.  It has pages on all the characters which I love because honestly I forget about some of them!  Inside are flaps that are numbered, great for working on numbers with kids, that are a thick cardboard as well.  I was surprised at how much is included in the book.  It tells the Rudolph story that is easy enough for young kids to understand and enjoy with great illustrations.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Rudolph Saves the Day
Paperback picture book for ages 3-7

This is a softcover book that is easy to flip through and the bonus is the included stickers.  This is a great book if you are looking for a simple and affordable book to teach kids the story of Rudolph.  It has great illustrations, easy to follow font and story and its a thin softcover kids can drag around the house.  The stickers of course are a huge appeal for kids as well.  This would be a great add-on gift for kids or a just because to start off the holiday season.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (My Reader, Level 2)
Level 2 Paperback Reader for ages 5-7

This is a perfect book for kids who are beginner readers.  My 7 year old loved being able to read this book on his own to me and then to his little sister.  I loved that it is a early reader book designed for young kids and it helps build reading confidence while teaching about the story of Rudolph.  The words are simple but still challenging for early readers.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Island of Misfit Toys
Middle-Grade Graphic Novel for ages 7-12

A graphic novel for kids about Rudolph?  Yeah!  This is a great book for older kids (and adults) who want a non-babyish book about the story of Rudolph.  It is a graphic novel with great illustrations and in classic graphic novel format.  My boys who are 6 and 7 years old enjoyed flipping through this book, but they aren’t ready to read it yet themselves.  Great to start off the holidays or continue on the spirt of Christmas through the season.
