Visiting family for the holidays is something I love and look forward to, but it is also something I need to prepare for. Did I pack presents for everyone we will be seeing? Do I have a hostess gift? What dish am I making and bringing? Most importantly though I make sure I have a screwdriver, scissors and batteries on hand. Why? Because our family always gives my kids presents and they almost always need all three of those before they will work. It would be nice if everyone gave batteries with the presents they give but such is not the case, so I always come prepared. Having a present that can’t be opened or used can definitely ruin the moment. i remember trying to explain to my toddler that we didn’t have a screwdriver and he screamed and cried like crazy, probably didn’t help that he was overtired and it was a toy that he really wanted.
Seeing my kids open presents though is something priceless to me and I love every moment of it. I feel so fortunate to be able to give my kids some of the toys they ask for. Like these faces when my kids opened up two toys they both recently circled in the Toys R Us catalog. They were so surprised to get a present just because and not have to wait until Christmas.
Here are their faces though when they realized the toys required batteries that we might not have on hand:
We had just watched the new Transformers movie and my son was so excited to get Transformers Age of Extinction Stomp and Chomp Grimlock Figure. Who knew that Transformers were actually dinosaurs before they were cars? I will say he is pretty awesome and pretty big! Luckily he includes demo batteries so he is ready to go right out of the box.
My Walkin’ Pup though unfortunately required C batteries which I didn’t have, or so I thought I didn’t have. Luckily I had actually already picked up some Duracell C batteries, I’m glad I thought to be prepared! Here is my daughter getting a FurReal Friends Get Up & GoGo, My Walkin’ Pup, which she has since walked around the house daily!
Olivia of course had to put on a princess dress to walk her dog:
Why did I choose Duracell? Other than the obvious of the box recommending them, they are a brand that is going to last in my kids’ toys. I honestly dread changing batteries in kid toys as that usually requires me finidng a screwdriver and the right batteries. Good batteries to start off means less changing them!
So what is the lesson of the day? Make sure you stock up on batteries, all the sizes as well so your prepared! To be even more prepared for present-opening, I’d suggest scissors and a screwdriver as well! Duracell has teamed up with Toys R Us to make it a little easier to stock up on those batteries for two of Hasbro’s hot new toys.
