NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router {Review}

Recently I got the chance to check out the NETGEAR WiFi Extender and it recommend we get a new router.  I didn’t think we needed one but then we got the NETGEAR Nighthawk router and I couldn’t believe the difference.  I can’t believe we waited so long to update our router!

The NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R8000) is exactly what it says…a tri-band router.  What that means is it gives off more Wi-Fi for all your devices. In my house I honestly cannot even count all the devices we have that connect to our network and it seems like the list keeps growing.  I need a router that can handle our load and the NETGEAR Nighthawk R8000 is just that.

Features:

• Speed is up to 3.2 Gbps

• Has six high performance antennas and powerful amplifiers to maximize range

• Smart Connect which designates your devices to separate Wi-Fi bands depending on slow and fast speeds

• Easy to manage, monitor, control and repair through the NETGEAR genie.  You can also make any printer AirPrint compatible.

• Guest network avaialable – this is great so when friends and family come over you can give them your password for your guest network rather than your main password.

• Turbo Transfer allows sharing of files between PC, Mac or Android

• Includes a USB 3.0 port for high speed, storage ready access

• Free ReadySHARE Vault app that provides automatic backup for Windows PC’s directly to connected USB storage devices.  I haven’t tried this out as I have a Mac hooked into it.

• Media Server built into it.  This is a super awesome feature that my husband said is very easy to set up.  We have something else we currently use for streaming but this would have been great if we didn’t have a server already.  A media server is great because you can display any of your movies from your desktop across any computer, tablet or smart tv in your house!

Honestly this router is a beast and I mean that in a good way.  Our internet signal has improved since we replaced our router and we haven’t had any issues in my house with all of our devices connected.  In the past I feel like we were really stretching our bandwidth and I had to turn devices off to use a new one.  Like I said we have a million devices connected throughout our house and when friends and family come over and this beastly router can handle it all.  I think though my favorite feature is how it automatically connects your devices in order of speeds required and optimizes them. For example if you have an old phone or laptop it will optimize it for the best speed it can handle, compared to a new tablet or other device.

I know this router is costly at around $300, but it is one that should be able to handle device loads, which we have definitely tested over here.  Our internet has improved throughout our house and it has made a huge difference for my sanity of dealing with internet connection errors and such!  The Nighthawk Tri-Band R8000, does have a lot of features that you might not need or use, so that is something to take into consideration but if you think you may start needing those features then I’d recommend buying this router rather than replacing it later when you find you could use it!
