K’NEX Tinkertoy 30 Model Super Building Set #KNEX {Review}

Disclosure: I was sent this product to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Back in the day when I was little and had a handfull of toys I played with, Tinkertoys were one of those toys.  I loved those little wooden sticks and wheel-things and remember building such crazy little creations.  Nowadays it seems like toys can be so complicated and so many require batteries.  Well luckily Tinkertoys are still around and sparking creativity in new generations.  What’s great about Tinkertoys is they come various sizes of sets so you can buy a smaller set of pieces or a bigger set.  They all come with various pieces as well such as big wheels, people and more.  Well the biggest set so far is the most recent one I got and it has kept my kids busy!

Tinkertoy 30 Model, 200 Piece, Super Building Set

With 200 pieces this is a great set for either a child starting out with Tinkertoys or one who wants to add to their collection.  There are plenty of pieces for a few kids to build together and there are full-color instructions that make it easy to build the 30 suggested designs or whatever your child can dream up.  Once they are done, everything can be stored neatly in the sturdy cardboard box for next time.  I will say I was bummed the box is not plastic, but the cardboard is durable and has held up to constant use and moving around.  I was surprised though at how huge the box is compared to how many pieces you get, it fills maybe 1/3 of the box.  I guess though its nice because then you can combine other pieces you have and won’t have to struggle to close the box.

Some of the suggested builds are:

The Tinkertoy pieces easily snap together or apart and my kids ages 3, 6 and 7 all enjoy building with them.  Whats neat is that some of the pieces are actually bendable so your child can really build some crazy things!  I have one son who likes to follow building ideas and my other son likes to build from scratch.  My daughter can’t follow directions yet but she is quite the little builder. She has no problem snapping the pieces in either which is nice because that can be frustrating for a child. Some of the smaller pieces she needs a little help with but for the most part she is good on her own.  Tinkertoys are a great toy for families to build together with and its a timeless toy you can’t help but love.

Oh and if your someone who prefers US made products, you can rest assured that every Tinkertoy piece is made right here in the USA.

  • I recently introduced my son to k'nex (I should've done it sooner). He was legos kid for the most part but ever since I bought him these, he's been hooked! I can't wait until my little one is old enough to play with these too! This is also a great alternative to watching tv :) .
