iTunes App Review: Kideos

Disclosure:  I received compensation in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My kids love watching videos on our iPad but I can’t always be there to monitor what they are watching.  We have two iPads in our house and between the three of them I feel like at least one is always asking to watch a video.  I used to let my boys watch them on their own but then one day when they were watching some LEGO superhero videos, I heard some terrible language coming from the video that shocked me!  I went to look at the video and it was just LEGO minifigures but there were teens narrating it with terrible language.

Luckily Kideos makes it easy to let kids watch videos and it gives parents the comfort of knowing the videos are safe.

So what is Kideos?

Kideos is a free app that delivers videos in an ad-free environment that are age-appropriate.  Parents can trust Kideos as the videos are pre-selected and organized by character for your child.

This is the video screen, very easy for kids to click on videos.

Parents can go under the Parental Controls section and choose how long kids can view videos and what age appropriate videos should be shown.  The viewing time is up to 6 hours or Unlimited and Age-level goes up to 10 years old.  I will say it is super easy to get into the Parental Controls level, you just have to do a simple math problem which of course my boys can do.  I think a password might be nice if you want to use this with older kids, maybe that is something that will be added later on.  For now though it is perfect with my 3 year old who I don’t have to worry about clicking on the wrong video!

This is an example of the math problem that is used to unlock Parental Controls.

This is a great prompt so kids have a warning.

Overall, Kideos is a great app to check out.  I love how simple it is for kids to use and that there is no ads to worry about or in-appropriate videos.  While I’d love to sit side by side with my kids when they are on their tablets, I do feel constantly like I am pulled in three different directions!
