Disclosure: I received this trip in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
So this is the first day we had at sea on the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas and it was a jam packed day for us. Like I had said there is so much more to do than just swim and eat, especially on the Freedom of the Seas ship.
To make everything available at your fingertips, every night a Cruise Compass is delivered that outlines all the activities and important times for what is going on and the hours of availability. For example, the Rock Climbing Wall, FlowRider and so forth have designated hours. I would sit there every night and circle things I wanted to make sure we did and ones to consider. I looked forward to the Cruise Compass because there was just so much listed and I wanted to try to take advantage of it all!
Some things to do:
We did a little of everything. We mainly relaxed though and just enjoyed being at sea, lots of time spent just watching over the balcony. Oh and eating ice cream since it is free and pretty much available all day long!
Here are some pictures of how we spent our day:
We didn’t go to the casino but I snapped some pics:
For lunch we ate at Sabor, which is a Mexican speciality restaurant on the ship. Sabor does have an additional cost ($25 per person) but its more of a regular restaurant than a huge dining room. I’d definitely recommend eating at one of the speciality restaurants while on the ship, especially if you want something more personal and alone (even better if the kids go to Adventure Ocean kids club!) Now I may be bias since I love Mexican food but Sabor was fabulous! From the fancy non-alcoholic drinks my kids had to the homemade guacamole my husband and I loved, everything was great!
Oh and our dinner of course:
Oh and since I am a soda addict, I spent the extra money and added a soda package. I think it was $50 for the whole week, unlimited. I received a big plastic mug I could refill anytime at these fun Coke machines:
These are awesome as well. Each floor has this map right outside the elevators. It tells you where everything is.
Need more help? There are also these giant touch screens you can tap on to find out where you are, how to get you back to where you want to go (with step by step directions) and it even tells you information about what is going on and more information about each place!
Finally we rested and of course cherished our towel animal!

I have never been on a vacation on a cruise ship! I've had lunches on smaller cruise ships, but nothing as spectacular as the ship you were on! I would LOVE to go on a vacation like the one you described in your review! I didn't realize that these ships were big enough to have shuffle board, a casino, pools, restaurants, etc.!
One of the reasons, I haven't been on a cruise like this one is because my husband has no desire to have a vacation on a cruise ship - so what kind of fun would I have without him? I'm still sad & want to go on one!! Thanks for sharing some of your activities!!
I've been on a few cruises but never ate at one of the private restaurants. The food, especially the guacamole looked delicious! Ah, the Royal Caribbean!
I never knew there was so much to do on a cruise. Great 1st day!
I am so amazed at how many fun activities there are available for kids. Looks like they had a great time.
Whoa! Never new a cruise ship had a rock climbing wall, how awesome!
I have a couple of important questions to ask you about this review if you could email me that would be great thanks (:
How neat that there's so much to do aboard the ship! Are those things around the ship that tell you directions and what's available a touch screen? That would be handy to be able to fill up a soda whenever you want. That towel animal is cute. What kind of channels can you get on the tv?
