For Day 2 aboard the Freedom of the Seas ship, we stopped in Labadee, Haiti, at Royal Caribbean’s private paradise!
It is their private port reserved exclusively for Royal Caribbean International guests. An interesting fact too I learned is that in 1492, the island was discovered by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage to the New World! Now for each port of call you do not have to disembark, you can stay and enjoy the ship and its planned activities, We did though get off in Labadee and had a full day planned for us of fun! Now another thing to note is on each port of call there are excursions available through Royal Caribbean. They do have an additional cost but are planned activities that are selected by Royal Caribbean, which are obviously going to be trustworthy.
The waters on the beach at Labadee are beautiful with white sand and I was thrilled for a relaxing day. First up we had the Arawak Aqua Park. The Aqua Park has a bunch of bouncing and floating trampolines, water slides, rolling logs and other giant water inflatables to enjoy. Adults and kids are given life jackets (which they are required to wear) and then they just jump off the pier of the beach and swim over to the inflatables. I stayed on the beach with my 3 year old since she was too scared to go, but my husband and boys had a blast for their designated hour. I honestly could not believe how adventurous my boys were, but they had a blast!
Next up was the Dragon’s Tail Coaster ride. It was a single ride coaster for two people, kinda like a bobsled coaster. You board your bobsled and go 680 feet up into a mountain with trees and a beautiful view off the beach on Santa Maria’s lookout mountain. It goes up to 30 miles per hour, you control the brake to slow down around curves. The ride lasted a few minutes and was an amazing experience for us! My 3 year old was too small for this but my boys were perfect.
Here is part of the Dragon Coaster track up in the mountain:
We enjoyed the beach and had lunch, just enjoyed how beautiful everything was.
After about five hours of the sun, my kids were exhausted. We had one excursion left that none of my kids were tall enough for so I decided to walk back to the ship with them while my husband enjoyed the Dragon’s Breath Flight Line.
Here is a picture I took of the ship before heading back onto it, which just shows off how big the Freedom of the Seas is:
My husband was thrilled as he had never ziplined before and he didn’t mind staying in Haiti for a little longer with the group. The Dragon’s Breath Flight Line is a 2,600 foot long flight line. First you get to zipline on a smaller test line, then you take a drive 500 feet above the beaches of Labadee. The flight my husband said was amazing!
We ended the day with some more swimming and relaxing. It was a great way to end the evening and wind down before before our next port of the call the next day!
