Disclosure: I received a gift card and product in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
I admit it I am usually a sugary cereal addict but lately I have been trying to be a good role model for my kids and expand my tastes. So when I got the chance to try out Honeycomb cereal I wasn’t jumping for joy because it sounded too healthy to me. I mean no sugar crystals or marshmallows, they looked so plain to me. Well I am so glad I gave Honeycomb cereal a shot!
PIC BOX
Honeycomb cereal has been around since 1965 and is a cereal that is proud to stand out from the crowd. Honeycomb is mainly a flour, whole grain and honey based cereal. It is sweetened by the honey flavor with its uniquely shaped honeycomb pieces. I have eaten it both with milk and as a snack on the go out of a bag, both ways are delicious. Even my kids are now little honeycomb addicts! My 3 year old asks for the “bee” cereal and loves popping these little honeycombs in her mouth.
Honeycomb cereal has:
- 8g of whole grain per serving*
- Excellent source of vitamin D
- Low in fat and cholesterol-free
- 10 essential vitamins and minerals
*Nutritionists recommend eating 3 or more servings of whole grain foods per day (about 16g whole grains per serving or at least 48g per day).
Like I said Honeycomb cereal is good both with milk or alone, but there are also tons of recipes with Honeycomb goodness. With summer just days away for us, I am all about snacks for my kids. I was limited with the snacks from the Honeycomb website as many contained peanut butter and my son has nut allergies but I could be creative with them and substitute products if I really wanted.
I found square cereal treats, crunchy ice cream balls, snack mixes and so many more yummy recipes.
I decided to try out Monkey Munch which is basically a chocolate mess of yumminess! I left out the peanut butter because of allergies but for us it is still delicious! With just Honeycomb cereal, chocolate chips and some powdered sugar I made a snack my whole family loves and I can feel good that they are eating. Yes I smothered the cereal in sugar and chocolate but it still has the whole grains, vitamins and minerals packed into it. Hey I’m happy getting anything into my kids that is not all artificial flavors and ingredients.
