Ever get sick and just don’t have the time to be sick? As a mom I don’t get sick days and when I do I don’t have time to sit in a waiting room at my doctors. I tend to get sick too at the most inconvenient times too, like on weekends or after my doctor’s office is closed. Sure I could go to the Emergency Room or even an Urgent Care Center, but the costs of those are ridiculous sometimes and there is usually a lot of waiting around. Well I apparently am not alone and technology has caught up with today’s busy adults.
American Well, also known as Amwell, is the nation’s largest telehealth company and connects users with board-certified, licensed doctors, dietitians and psychologists for immediate and live, online visits—day or night, on either mobile or desktop.
Amwell doctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so basically whenever you need a doctor they are there. No more waiting until the doctor’s office opens or worse yet not going to the doctor because you don’t have time. I tend to put my own health on the back burner so being about to video chat with a board-certified doctor is amazing. You may think too that the doctors are inexperienced or not good doctors, but they actually have 15 years in practice in various medical fields.
Some issues Amwell doctors can help with are:
I got the chance to chat with an Amwell doctor and it was amazingly easy. I logged in from my phone from my kids hockey practice and within 5 minutes I was speaking to a doctor. I just had to create an account, answer a few questions about medications I’m on, my issues, allergies and so forth and then pick a doctor.
I really liked that I could see a picture of the doctor and their qualifications and specialities before I selected them. Once you select them you get put in a virtual waiting room where you may wait for up to 10 minutes. You can even get texted when the doctor is available! I’ve been sick with a terrible cold for a few weeks now and I really liked that I could get some tips on what to do, what to look for and when I should see go in to a doctor (because the condition required more medical attention.) She was even able to send me two prescriptions for my cough direct to my pharmacy.
Without a visit with Amwell I might have amissed my youngest son’s last soccer game. With three kids in travel sports, we are constantly on the go and I don’t have a lot of time to sit in doctor offices but a video call with a doctor is something I can squeeze in.
I didn’t have to miss any more time with these monkeys!
If you are worried about privacy, Amwell takes privacy very seriously. They are HIPAA compliant as well as the site is secure.
If the cost is something your worried about. Amwell is actually accepted by many major insurers, with more added every day. Just enter your health insurance information for a lower cost visit.
For peace of mind, I highly recommend Amwell. Its such a simple and easy way to get a diagnosis and much better too than self-diagnosing by searching online.
