Learning with LEGO Nonfiction Books #LEGONonfiction

I partnered with this brand for product and/or compensation in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

My boys are 8 and 9 years old and are not big into reading. I have tried so many different types of books and it is definitely a challenge when you have kids not into reading. Both of my boys have been in a non-fiction phase lately and that is the only type of books they want which it can be a challenge to find age-appropriate titles that they would be interested in. They are both huge LEGO® fans so I have bought them LEGO series books but there weren’t non-fiction titles.

Well Scholastic has come out with a new series of books that is seriously amazing. LEGO and Scholastic has come together to create nonfiction books that kids will want to read, heck I love browsing them! The line of books uses LEGO models and minifigures as illustrations to explain real-world topics. The partnership merges the best of both worlds I think.

The first four titles in the LEGO Nonfiction line are in stores now:

I got these four books and left them out on the counter and within an hour my boys were laying on the floor flipping through them. These books have become their new favorites and they are jam packed with so many facts that I don’t see them getting old anytime soon. Each book covers a different topic and uses both real-world images as well as LEGO minifugres to explain the topics. The books are paperback and perfectly sized for smaller hands.

Deep Dive and Dino Safari both include 30 stickers to use throughout the book. They are Level 2 books which work on new vocabulary and longer sentences. Perfect for readers. The stories flow under each animals topics. Throughout the book there are also LEGO prompts to build certain things such as to “Build a ship, but make it look as if it has been on the ocean to for 100 years.” I love that they inspire not only reading but building fun.

Planets and Knights & Castles are more encyclopedic type books but in a fun way. They are full of facts and LEGO fun to go deeper in topics. These books are thicker than the Level 2 books. The facts are amazing and ones that kids will love to read such as “Knights practiced fighting on piggyback!” and “It took 14 years to become a knight.” The books pack everything a kid would want to know on the topic into a fun way to read it as there are different fonts, pictures, LEGO minifigures and more.

More Leveled Readers and Favorite Topics titles are coming in 2017 but I think so far there are some good ones out there. I am excited to check out the Ultimate Fact Book called Factastic: A LEGO Adventure in the Real World (LEGO Nonfiction.) The book contains a little of everything which is great for curious kids. Each page spread contains a LEGO scene along with real-world photography to show off the facts of each topic. The book is geared towards grades 3-7. It is definitely going to be a great gift for the holiday season and I know my boys are going to want it!

I honestly cannot say enough good things about these books. They are books that kids can grow with because there is so much in them to read and learn from plus younger kids can start with the Leveled Readers and go up from there. My boys keep them in the car and bring them in places when were out. They love then coming home and creating items that the books suggest too. We will definitely be getting all the new LEGO nonfiction books when they come out!
